MSC Cruises claims to be “giving agents even more flexibility” to sell its range by introducing the ability to option and hold cruises across all itineraries. Agents can now secure cabins and flights for customers without the need to take a deposit. Quotes remain open for up to three days, depending on availability and the departure date. The initiative is being rolled out in the UK after proving “a strong selling tool” in overseas markets. MSC Cruises executive director Giles Hawke said he believed this


would prove beneficial to agents and customers and help reduce the number of cancellations. “By offering this facility, agents


can strengthen their role as a trusted adviser and underline


the value they bring to the sales process,” he said. “Clients can secure the ship and


cabin they want at a guaranteed price, then discuss it with family before making their commitment.


“Having the booking on option means clients won’t see their preferred cabin sold or any price increases while they are making up their mind, which avoids any negative feedback for agents and gives them an extra weapon to secure bookings. “We will be the only mainstream cruise line offering this service to agents in the UK.” Agents will be able to create options on the line’s booking portals – MSCBook in the UK and MSC Online in Ireland.
