The Antarctic Peninsula and Weddell Sea

Journey deep into Antarctica and experience both sides of the Peninsula. The Weddell Sea is a pristine area of Antarctica, famed for its giant tabular icebergs, brash ice-studded seas and rich polar history. In a land famously travelled by polar explorer Ernest Shackleton, observe seals, whales and birds at close quarters and enjoy the serenity of this less visited region of Antarctica.

Voyage itinerary

Day 1 Fly from Punta Arenas to Puerto Williams, to be warmly welcomed aboard your ship, the M/V Polar Pioneer.

Days 2 to 3 Cross the infamous Drake Passage, where expedition staff will begin their lectures on the area’s wildlife, history and environment.

Days 4 to 6 Access to the Weddell Sea is totally ice dependent. Helmed by a highly experienced crew, the M/V Polar Pioneer will thread its way through these icy waters which are alive with penguins, against a backdrop of breathtaking volcanic scenery. For the next three days, the whim of weather systems and shifting pack ice, dictate the schedule. Wherever the trip unfolds, wildlife, heroic age relics, and haunting landscapes await.

Days 7 to 9 Returning through the Antarctic Sound, we’ll head for the Peninsula’s beautiful Western fl anks. We’ll make full use of daylight hours and relatively ice-free waters to experience as much as possible; wildlife stops on off-shore islands and Zodiac cruising amid icebergs and whales, are all possibilities.

Days 10 to 11 Return across the Drake Passage to Ushuaia.

Day 12 Disembark in Ushuaia after a pre-dawn sail along the Beagle Channel and breakfast on board.
