Follow the Vikings’ way from northeast Scotland to the land of the midnight sun. Visit the Orkney and Shetland islands, from Stone Age villages and Viking relics, to world-class distilleries and spectacular birdlife, including the beloved puffi n. Visit picturesque fi shing villages and toast our Arctic Circle crossing. In Spitsbergen, we enter a polar wonderland, where delicate wild fl owers adorn tundra and the summer sun never sets. This spectacular wilderness is the breeding ground for walrus, reindeer, millions of birds and polar bears.


ARCTIC Voyage itinerary


Day 1 Embark the M/V Polar Pioneer in Aberdeen. Day 2 Among Orkney’s archipelago of 70 windswept islands, a treasure trove of archaeology, history and wildlife awaits. Day 3 Imposing sea cliffs teem with seabirds, inviting our Zodiacs to explore coastlines and nearby colonies of fulmars, kittiwakes, guillemots and puffi ns – to name a few. Day 4 Warmed by Gulf Stream currents and near 24-hour daylight, Shetland’s 100 islands are peppered with nature reserves and archaeological sites. Day 5 As we sail towards Norway, our historian and naturalist delight us with fascinating talks. Days 6 to 9 Over the next four days, we will explore the intricate maze of islands which help to protect Norway’s coastline. We celebrate crossing the Arctic Circle and visit special places like Sor Gjaeslingan – a birders’ paradise. As we continue north, we pass by Torghatten, a mountain with a distinctive hole through it, and enjoy the majestic scenic delights of Lofoten Islands; from romantic beaches to narrow fjords hemmed by granite walls. Day 10 We cross the Barents Sea, past the often fog-shrouded Bear Island, a favourite nesting ground for birds. Day 11 Beyond Spitsbergen’s South Cape, we explore South Spitsbergen National Park. Day 12 Surrounded by polar desert, we search for reindeer, ringed and bearded seals, and the mighty polar bear. Day 13 Learn about human history dating back 400 years and if we’re lucky, we’ll encounter the elusive beluga whale. Day 14 Disembark in Longyearbyen.
