Disko Bay - whale safari
On the west coast of Greenland, Disko Bay is home to countless icebergs, rocky islands and glaciers. Our favourite way to explore this unique landscape is by infl atable boat and on foot, so you can get close to the birds and ice fi elds in absolute tranquillity. Disko Bay’s rich waters attract narwhals, plus beluga, bowhead, minke and humpback whales, providing an exciting wildlife experience.
Voyage itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Copenhagen. Transfer to your hotel. Evening at leisure. Day 2 Transfer to the airport for fl ight to Kangerlussuag, gateway of Greenland, where you will board the M/S Fram.
Day 3 Visit the local crafts workshop at Sisimiut where you will be able to purchase locally-made artefacts.
Day 4 Sail to Qeqertarsuaq with its enormous icebergs. You will spend time walking along the beach amongst the Arctic fl ora.
Day 5 Explore the settlement of Qasiguiannguit, founded in 1734.
Day 6 Today we visit Uummannaq for a stroll around this beautiful town. In the early evening, we call at the hunting and fi shing settlement of Ukkusissat, where locals will welcome us with traditional songs.
Day 7 Illorsuit lies at the mouth of the Uummannaq Fjord. We visit this traditional hunting and fi shing community, rarely visited by tourists.
Day 8 Sail to Upernavik and visit the world’s northernmost open-air museum.
Day 9 Go ashore at Qullissat and explore the settlement. Enjoy the stunning views of the Eqip Sermia Glacier and the sheer, raw nature of Greenland.
Day 10 The Ilulissat Icefjord was added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in 2004.Take a cruise by infl atable boat and get close to this huge mass of ice.
Day 11 Visit the small settlement of Itilleq, where you will be invited by the locals for a ‘kaffemik’ - literally meaning ‘coffee please’.
Day 12 Arrive Kangerlussuaq. Transfer to the airport for your fl ight to Copenhagen.
