Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctic Peninsula

This is the ultimate Antarctic adventure, following in the footsteps of legendary explorer Ernest Shackleton. Your wildlife journey encompasses the extraordinary bird-life of the Falkland Islands, iconic king penguins of South Georgia, and glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Antarctic Peninsula. Abundant marine life, including several species of whales and dolphins, will accompany you between landings.

Voyage itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. Transfer to your hotel and enjoy your evening at leisure.

Day 2 Board your expedition ship in the afternoon and set sail across the Beagle Channel. Day 3 Sail east towards the Falkland Islands.

Days 4 to 5 The Falklands archipelago is home to a fascinating mix of penguins; magellanic, macaroni and rockhoppers, with their distinctive yellow crest. With luck, you may also see black-browed albatross.

Days 6 to 7 Continue east to South Georgia. Keep your eyes peeled for the whales that inhabit these waters and albatrosses that fl y above the ship.

Days 8 to 11 The highlight of any trip to South Georgia is the 100,000-strong king penguin rookery. At Saint Andrew’s Bay, you’ll see parents with chicks, as well as an estimated fi ve million macaroni penguins. This isolated island also supports substantial populations of elephant and fur seals. South Georgia is steeped in polar history and you’ll have time to visit Shackleton’s grave at Grytviken.

Days 12 to 13 Plotting a south-westerly course, you head towards legendary Elephant Island in the South Shetland Islands.

Days 14 to 18 Your voyage allows you plenty of time to explore the breathtaking scenery of the Antarctic Peninsula; ice-choked waterways, blue and white icebergs, impressive glaciers and rugged snow-capped mountains.

Days 19 to 20 It’s time to leave Antarctica and head north across the Drake Passage.

Day 21 Disembark in Ushuaia in the morning.
