Fluidic Muscles add flexible power at Firmac

finishing bottlenecks with Costa Levigatrici

allace McDowall, one of Scotland's UK's leading sub-contract engineering companies, has invested in Costa Levigatrici deburring equipment supplied by UK agent Wightman Stewart. It is being be used to play a vital role in providing a high quality finish to many different components fabricated by the company.

W These range from parts

for a 100 tonne earthmover to precision laser cut parts for decorative screens. At its11500 square metre facility in Monkton,

Ayrshire, Wallace

Mcdowall undertakes a wide range of engineering projects for customers in many industries. Heavy and light steel fabrication work, precision engineering work, air pipe fabrication and the design/production of customised parts are just some of the services available. The company currently operates six laser cutting machines and two punch presses for a minimum of five days per/week, 24 hours each day. The majority of parts go on to be fabricated and then powder coated.

Wallace Mcdowell cuts out the

or over 30 years Scarborough-based Firmac Ltd. has led the way in the design and manufacture of high quality metal duct forming equipment and HVAC machinery built entirely in the UK. The company's latest machine, which manufactures galvanised and stainless steel H&V ducting for a client in Switzerland, incorporates innovative, Thorite-supplied Fluidic Muscle technology to replace mechanical cylinders, providing fast and accurate activation of tensioning clamps.

F Manufactured by Festo, the

DMSP Fluidic Muscles are powered by compressed air and provide outstanding performance. Their single-acting pulling action is completely free from stick or slip effects and features acceleration values of up to 100m/s² and speeds up to 3m/s. In the new Firmac machine the fluidic muscles are used to position the tensioning clamps relative to the varying steel coil widths and profiles used to form the ducting, instantly positioning sliding blocks to grip the steel. Each fluidic muscle generates 10 times the force of a mechanical cylinder of the same diameter and because the unit has no piston rod and dynamic seals it is ideal for use in very aggressive working environments.

West Control Solutions’ CAL Thermostats enhance plant efficiency W

est Control Solutions has launched the CAL Thermostats family, a range of easy-to-use temperature thermostats that improve performance and efficiency for food and beverage manufacturers. With a simple menu and a compact, high ingress protection-rated casing, CAL

Thermostats offer precision monitoring of temperatures within ovens, fryers and refrigerators. The CAL ET2011 is an easily programmable standard thermostat for heating control, with a timer and a 4-digit display. A simple panel clamp enables quick installation and release, while a range of input options for thermistors, thermocouples or PT100 offers operational flexibility. Automatic, ‘self-tuning’ calculation of PID parameters, soft-start and the option to program relay output as alarm or control output all add to the flexibility and efficiency of the unit. For applications where defrost is required, the CAL EDT2423 offers a different output for defrost or fan control and an option for an external digital input to trigger defrost. The device supports different defrost cycles: compressor shutdown, electric defrost or heat generation defrost.

add extra versatility to adaptalok ATS™ conduit system

ew Adaptalok ATS™ T & Y piece electrical conduit fittings are now available from Adaptaflex. These multi-way fittings are designed for the most demanding of operational environments and will help to save installation costs, ultimately improving the quality and integrity of a

complete installation. They can be used in multiple configurations, thereby also eliminating the added cost of reducers. The T & Y fittings complete the range of Adpatalok ATS™ one-piece, IP68/69k push-on liquid tight fittings. They are manufactured from halogen free, low smoke and toxicity toughened glass filled nylon and designed for impact and corrosion resistance as well as being able to withstand constant vibration and water ingress. No assembly is required by the user. Thanks to a sophisticated moulding process, the conduit seal and face washer are an integral part of the single piece nylon body fitting. This makes the installation times very fast and extremely reliable. There is minimal risk of losing component parts which might otherwise compromise the sealing and integrity of a conduit system. The IP68 (4 bar) and IP69k ratings are achieved by a simple push- twist-pull installation process.

OCTITE® 7850™ is a hand cleaner that is described by many as Henkel’s ‘best kept secret’. This is a time served product that contains no petroleum solvents yet remains one of the best methods of removing dirt, grime and other industrial products. The latest generation of this natural hand cleaner is no less effective yet it is believed to be one of only a few products on the market that is certified to conform to European Cosmetics Regulations. This is an internationally recognised regime which reinforces products safety in line with latest technological developments. The bottom line is that users can be assured that ingredients used in the formulation of LOCTITE® 7850 are sufficiently kind to the skin to be used in the cosmetic industry but they remain highly effective in the workshop and factory environment. The magic ingredient in LOCTITE® 7850 is d-Limonene, a solvent extracted from oranges. As a result, the product has a fresh citrus scent and contains no artificial fragrance. Its colour is also a pleasant, pale orange.

Secure connections with a flick of the wrist

O

n the basis of its time-proven quick-release connectors for compressed air technology Eisele has designed a stainless steel version with a union nut and anti-kink protection for especially demanding cooling water applications; the solid metal connector is a high-quality addition to the line of premium connection components. Quick-release connectors are time-proven and indispensable components in compressed air technology. At many manual workplaces in workshops or at production lines and assembly stations, quick-release connectors are used to access the compressed air network. They enable connection of pneumatic tools, portable machines or compressed air pistols with a flick of the wrist. Series 20 of the Eisele BASICLINE offers an entire range of different quick-release connectors made of brass. They feature a high flow rate in a compact design and can also be connected and disconnected under pressure with no loss. Based on the same connecting principle Eisele has developed a stainless steel quick-release connector for cooling water applications with especially stringent standards for safety and purity.
