Sensorex adds conductivity to Modular S8000 Industrial Platform

ABB drive saves £2,000 a year

ewtown PlasticsA plastic components manufacturer is saving nearly £2,000 a year in energy costs on one of its injection moulding machines through retrofitting an ABB variable-speed drive (VSD). Newtown Plastics fitted the VSD following a joint energy appraisal report by ABB and City Electrical Factors (CEF). Wayne Trematick, Energy Consultant, comments "the energy appraisal showed that the company could save £1,963 on energy costs, with an 18 months payback. This is a very compelling reason for installing drives." The company, based in Newtown, Mid Wales, makes a wide variety of moulded plastic components, both its own ranges and bespoke designs. These range from display cases to caps and closures and a wide variety of components for use in the pharmaceutical, retail,

N construction, automotive, electrical and other industries. aerospace, Following ABB's

energy appraisal, a machine with an 18.5 kW motor was identified as a prime candidate for retrofitting a VSD.

accurate conductivity measurement for cooling tower monitoring and a host of additional processing environments. The CS8000TC sensor integrates easily into in- line systems. Its keyed flange facilitates sensor orientation. A detachable cable assembly eliminates the need to pull cable through a conduit and sensors can be removed without tools for cleaning and calibration. The sensor’s conductivity cell constant is k=1.0 +/- 10% for a wide measurement range within its temperature/pressure of 60°C/100psig. Temperature compensation is included with a choice of four sensor types. 10K, 30K NTC, Pt100 and Pt1000 RTD options enable matching to existing conductivity transmitter or controllers. Sensorex’s S8000 series modular platform saves users time and money by configuring a custom system that can grow and change with process needs. The platform includes pH, ORP (Redox) and conductivity electrodes, a choice of mounting hardware, and a variety of electronics options including unity gain pre-amplifiers and blind 4 – 20mA transmitters.

Q8Oils completes £80,000 investment at its Leeds blending plant

To cater for increasing product demand and changes to its European

manufacturing strategy, Q8Oils has completed an £80,000 investment at its lubricants blending plant in Leeds.

The work

included tank conversions and new calibration equipment to increase flexibility in its bulk storage and provide additional capacity. To improve lead times and increase throughput, Q8Oils also took the opportunity to add a new filling line. One factor that led to the investment was Q8Oils¹ decision to switch from importing base oils and additives from the continent, to bulk finished lubricants from its sister plant in Antwerp, Belgium. Q8Oils sales director Gianluca Fenaroli says: ³Europe is a core market for Q8Oils and we want to continue to increase our market share by providing high levels of service and quality products to our customers. The UK is key to this growth strategy, particularly at a time when it is emerging from the economic downturn faster than most of Europe.² This growth strategy has also included an increase in its sales organisation. Last April, Q8Oils recruited an energy specialist to increase market share within the energy sector, and earlier this month an additional direct sales manager was appointed to drive growth within the metal manufacturing and automotive sectors.

delivery within 48 hours

S

pirax Sarco has introduced guaranteed 48-hour delivery for its Spira-trol™ modular control valves. Actual delivery times since the service’s launch are proving to be much shorter with over 90% of valves reaching their destination within 24 hours of ordering. Spira-trol valves leave the Spirax Sarco factory pre-commissioned for applications, enabling quick ‘plug and play’ installation. With over 2,500 permutations available and delivered within 48 hours, it is possible to match almost any system’s needs and bring it back into service as quickly as possible in the event of a breakdown. Spira-trol’s modular design with quick-change ‘clamp-in-place’ seat means its duty can be altered to match changing plant conditions,

rather than the entire

valve being replaced. The self-aligning ‘clamp-in-place’ seat also simplifies maintenance so no special tools are required and there is no need to take the

valve out of the pipeline. This achieves considerable cost savings compared to conventional designs with screw-in seats that often seize in place, requiring the valve to be removed, incurring a lengthy plant shutdown.

Kite Packaging and Audion Swissvac Announce New Partnership

The two packaging businesses announce partnership for one of the biggest packaging shows of 2014

ite Packaging, one of the UK’s leading distributors of packaging,

and Audion

Swissvac, the leading name in automated packaging solutions and machinery,

will be

partnering for the first time ever at the PPMA Show on 30th September – 2nd October at NEC Birmingham.

The two

businesses will be collaborating on stand F90 – a 64m sq. space

which will display a huge 21 machines to stand visitors. Various machines will be on display, each with their own unique packaging credentials, with a focus on bagging, void fill, sealing, and vacuum and shrink wrapping. Most notably Audion Swissvac will be showcasing its Speedpack system, a manual fill and seal machine, and Rollbag, a continuous bagging system using the patented pre-opened bags on a roll. Kite will also be showcasing their patented system – the Wrap & Hold, the first machine of its kind to incorporate stretch film and corrugated boards, to create versatile packs that eliminate the need for void fill. The Kite Mini Air and Air Shock will also be on display – two air systems that are significantly cheaper, more effective and more environmentally friendly than traditional void fill and protective packaging. The partnership will ensure more variety for customers of both Kite and Audion, with plans to bring a range of possible solutions to help businesses with their packaging operation, using the expertise and resources of both experienced teams.
