PREVIEW SENSORS & INSTRUMENTATION 2014 OPTICAL SENSORS AND DATALOGGERS
DELTA will present its newly developed optical sensor with amplifiers, optical data logger with NFC for wireless transmission and the 256 array linear image sensor with analog output. The company’s sensors are produced in standard
CMOS process, making them cheaper than when using the CIS process (CMOS Image Sensor). DELTA has been supporting microelectronics
development since 1976, providing services to hundreds of successful integrated circuit projects for some of the world’s leading OEMs/IDMs and fabless semiconductor suppliers. Services include design, development of test solutions, production testing of components, wafer probing, failure analysis and logistics for the supply of components including purchasing of wafers and packaging.

Precision sensor and instrumentation manufacturer, Michell Instruments is
celebrating 40 years of business this year. The company started out in a small building with a couple of employees but now has three manufacturing locations and offices in 10 countries. Michell has always placed
importance on research and development, resulting in pioneering work in the field of humidity calibration with the National Physical Laboratory and the development of a fully
automatic method to reliably measure hydrocarbon dewpoint and in the world’s first two-wire dewpoint transmitter which made trace moisture measurements quick, simple and accessible for numerous applications. The growing awareness in manufacturing and other industries of the benefits of monitoring moisture for energy efficiency, safety and quality has boosted Michell’s growth. In the 1990s Michell started to
expand into Europe opening offices in Germany and the Netherlands.
This was followed by more rapid worldwide growth in the first years of the 21st century with offices in France, China, Japan, Italy, the US, Middle East and Brazil. The manufacturing side of the company grew to keep pace with demand for the products. Manufacturing capacity was
added in Europe with the acquisition of two relative humidity manufacturers in the Netherlands and France. After moving to a purpose-built office and factory in Ely, Cambridgeshire in 2007 Michell extended this to double the space from 30,000 sq ft to 60,000 sq ft in 2011.
Looking to the future, Michell is
working to introduce new sensing technologies to its portfolio. These include tuneable laser diode analysers to measure moisture in natural gas, a new generation of quartz crystal microbalance sensor and new techniques for measuring oxygen and other gases.

BIGGER AND BETTER SENSORS EVENT
Sensors & Instrumentation 2014 will be the largest so far. With seven months to go before the event starts enquiries are up and stand sales much higher than this time last year. “Due to unprecedented demand the
show has expanded ,” comments show organiser Kathryn Ambrose. “As a direct result of the success of the 2013 event we have seen the demand for sales outstrip supply and therefore increased the floor space to accommodate more stands.” The 2013 event was praised by exhibitors and visitors with comments ranging from: “a great show” to “a truly exception exhibition” and this has resulted in previous exhibitors re-booking plus new exhibitors. “This year we have seen previous exhibitors rebook with larger stands. A number of new companies will be exhibiting, having visited during the 2013 event and been impressed with the quality and quantity of both visitors and exhibitors.” Sensors & Instrumentation 2014 will
be co-located with Machine Building, Micro, Nano, MEMS, and TCT Live with Interplas and PPMA taking place at the same time. “The co-location which offers six shows under one roof will appeal to visitors and no doubt considerably increase footfall to the event.”

Sensor-Technik UK will be displaying key engineering products including freely programmable electronic controllers, teleservice modules and pressure, inclination and temperature sensors. There will be an opportunity to view its
SMALLEST STAINLESS STEEL ACCELEROMETER
The A/128 is said to be the smallest IEPE stainless steel accelerometer on the market. It weighs just 0.19 grams, measures 5.7mm long,
3.5mm wide and 2.3mm high and uses a low noise cable with an outer diameter of 0.8mm to provide ultimate flexibility and ensure the response of the accelerometer is not affected. This is one of the accelerometers DJB Instruments will be assembling on the stand under a microscope

revolutionary hybrid drive power inverter that can significantly improve the efficiency of certain vehicles and mobile machines. In addition, the company will display high quality, rugged LCD operator display screens made by two leading manufacturers in this field. The company has produced a brief
document that provides an insight into the benefits offered by teleservice or remote monitoring technology together with a short film highlighting those products that can form part of a practical telemetry system.
