o make accessing critical production data easier within the manufacturing enterprise, Rockwell Automation has launched the Allen-Bradley Stratix 5100 wireless access point (WAP) featuring a work group bridge. Unlike typical wireless clients that only connect a single IP address, the Stratix 5100 WAP enables engineers to connect up to 20 IP addresses simultaneously – helping reduce design time when integrating machines and equipment into the industrial control network The Stratix 5100 WAP is ideal for industrial networks needing secure and reliable wireless connectivity. Enterprise-class silicon and optimized radios deliver a robust mobility experience that includes 802.11a/b/g/n with 3 by 4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology and three spatial streams. The Stratix 5100 WAP uses Cisco IOS, providing world-class performance and configuration options. In addition, the Stratix 5100 WAP provides premier integration to the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture system with detailed network diagnostic information. The Stratix 5100 WAP is currently available and complements the Allen Bradley ControlLogix EtherNet/IP communication modules and full portfolio of Stratix switches from Rockwell Automation.

New Fluke Energy Efficiency portal F

luke has developed an Energy Efficiency portal on its UK web site to help maintenance professionals understand ways to manage energy efficiency in a facility in order to save money. It provides guidance in the use of Fluke tools to identify electrical waste, production process waste and building infrastructure waste and ways in which to minimise them. Just one of a series of ‘Solution Centers’ which contain a library of information and programs, the Energy Efficiency content will be frequently updated with new information, so users are advised to add www.fluke.co.uk/SaveEnergy to their favourites list. The portal also provides links to relevant Fluke Academy seminars that run throughout the

year in various locations across the UK and Ireland. A short video introduces four engineers discussing their everyday need to measure energy in order to save money for their employers and customers.

ICK is launching an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) version of its Lector 620 scanner for packaging applications, making combined alphanumeric character and barcode reading, quality-checking and matching, faster, simpler and more reliable than was previously possible.

Verification, 2D and barcode reading in a single device. It delivers outstanding reading capability with ease of set-up in a compact, competitively-priced sensor.

Using machine vision-based

technology can be a vital weapon in the battle to ensure pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics and FMCG products leave the factory with alphanumeric labelling information fully readable, matches the product’s barcode and is fully traceable. Application Specialist for Imaging & Measurement at Sick:

Says Neil Sandhu, and

cosmetics packaging still needs human readable on-pack data, such as batch, lot numbers and best- before expiry dates.

These numbers, letters, symbols and codes need to be verified, be of a readable quality and match the barcode to ensure the right data is associated with the right pack. It’s the only cast-iron way for manufacturers to save punitive fines and comply with the requirements of retailers and the law.

With simple swivel-connector

mounting, installation is quick thanks to the scanner’s aiming laser, focus adjustment, and auto-setup. With a built-in facility to teach font changes ‘on the fly’, there’s no need to stop the line for product changes. The SICK LECTOR 620 OCR permits plain text letters, symbols and numbers at distance of between 30mm and 300mm to be detected both while stationary and at speeds of up to 4.0 m/s. A range of standard fonts are supported, as well as barcodes and data matrix codes, ensuring both legibility and placement for essential quality control. The device incorporates a microSD card for image storage and parameter back-up memory.

The teach-in of fonts and

commissioning for the LECTOR 620 OCR are rapid and easy, done at the scanner rather than remotely from a PC, and can be performed from the running production line. The integrated font training wizard provides intuitive teach-in and fonts can be cloned to other LECTOR 620 OCR scanners, saving time in full line commissioning and the font locator function ensures easy reading of moving fonts.

Latest industrial amplifier precisely measures torque and angle of rotation

H

BM has launched its PX460 plug-in measuring card enabling torque transducers to be fully

integrated in its PMX industrial measuring amplifier by giving dynamic and precise measurements of frequency, pulse, speed, angle of rotation and torque. The PX460 amplifier plug-in card can acquire up to four torque transducers simultaneously with a measuring bandwidth of up to 6 kHz. In addition to torque, encoder signals of up to 2 MHz can be acquired with absolute precision in challenging industrial environments. Real time Ethernet fieldbuses such as Profinet, Ethercat or Industrial Ethernet ensure reliable integration of machine and plant control systems.

The PMX measuring amplifier

features Advanced Plug & Measure technology and TEDS that automatically recognises connected transducers. This removes the need to manually enter complex settings minimising delays in actually undertaking measurement tasks. The card helps users reduce time delays while giving greater system stability and avoiding unnecessary errors.
