TEST FRAMES REDUCE set-up times and boost productivity
A family of single and dual column test frames radically cuts set- up times and expands the scope of post-test analysis, helping to improve productivity in demanding manufacturing environments
orce measurement testers whose innovative touchscreen-based user interface has the potential to significantly reduce set-up times is helping research scientists and manufacturing engineers perform accurate and repeatable tests in a fraction of the time taken with traditional systems. These single and dual column systems allow operations to be performed with fewer steps, increasing output without compromising measurement result accuracy. At the heart of the range is the Starrett
F
L2, L2+ and L3 Series software. L2 is the entry level package where results need to be quantified before the test; L2+ and L3 allow results to be requested after the test in a radical departure to the standard, time-consuming approach that requires test parameters to be established prior to testing. The controller is a tablet computer or touchscreen PC. Tests can be run based on international testing standards (ASTM, ISO, DIN etc) and in all test modes including tensile, compression, flexural and shear. Different graph views show the test curve being constructed: strain, stress, load distance and time can all be displayed graphically or via data tables. With L2+ and L3 test results can be analysed using the software’s inbuilt
tools and the data exported to external applications (using inbuilt WiFi, Bluetooth or USB 2.0 ports) such as Excel, Word, Access or other statistical process control software. “Whether in research labs or on high
volume production floors the advanced measurement technologies behind this family of material testing products is already gaining positive feedback from sectors spanning automotive to aerospace, biomedical and pharmaceutical to packaging,” says metrology sales manager Adrian Welton. Available in single column and dual column formats, Starrett force measurement systems feature robust design that starts with a solid granite base and extruded aluminium columns for optimal stability, stiffness and durability. The single column electro- mechanical testers are available in four load capacities ranging from 500N to 5kN, while the dual column test frames are available in 10kN, 30kN and 50kN capacities. While the single column bench-top testers are suitable for applications such as medical device manufacturers, the dual column models are effective for testing larger samples and a range of materials including metals, composites, building products, specialist automotive/aerospace materials. measure precision load and strain and are ‘self-recognising’ with the testing frame, simplifying test set-up. A wide range of mechanically compatible testing fixtures is available including wedge and vice action, scissor-type, rope and pneumatic.

APP ENABLES WIRELESS TRANSMISSION OF TEST MEASUREMENT DATA
Fluke’s Connect system allows maintenance technicians to wirelessly transmit measurement data from Fluke test tools to their smart phone for secure storage on the cloud. More than 20 tools connect with the app including digital multimeters, thermal imagers, insulation testers, process meters and specific voltage, current and temperature meters. Fluke Connect facilitates access to records by all
team members wherever they are while increasing the safety of technicians working with energised equipment. Technicians can AutoRecord measurements and infrared images to Fluke Cloud storage and everyone on the team with a smart phone and the app can see the data. Team collaboration is made easy with ShareLive video calls whereby technicians can share measurements

with other team members in real time and obtain approvals for repairs or get questions answered without leaving the field. The EquipmentLog history feature allows technicians to assign measurements to specific equipment, creating a cloud-based history of test measurement data for easy access during both troubleshooting and reliability maintenance. TrendIt enables technicians to instantly graph data, helping to identify trends and quickly make informed decisions. Fluke Cloud storage offers secure access, electronic surveillance, multi-factor access control systems, built-in firewalls and encrypted data storage.
