Situated eight kilometres south of Athens, Hellinikon and an adjoining 337-berth marina span nearly 620 hectares and includes a waterfront of about 3.5km. A consortium com- prised of Lamda, China’s Fosun Group and Abu- Dhabi property firm Al Maabar in March were awarded a 99-year lease for Hellinikon for €915m in March of this year.
The consortium has pledged to invest €5.9bn over the next 15 years to create parks, leisure, exhibi- tion and concert facilities, hotels and luxury resi- dences at the site. The developers say the project will benefit adjoining municipalities, but not all residents share that view, particularly as the plans include a casino. The deal is still subject to

Hellinikon was turned into a sports complex for the 2004 Olympics, but most of the venues built for the Games have rarely been used since.
Lamda Development is operated by the shipping magnate Latsis family. The company has built Greece’s largest shopping centre and created the media village for the Olympic Games. It also rebuilt and runs one of the capital’s main marinas south of Athens.
Holland Casino for sale and new licences open for competitors
HOLLAND The Netherlands government has agreed to split up and sell its state- run casino monopoly Holland Casino. Junior Justice Minister Fred Teeven stated that 10 of the 14 branches will be sold under their current name while the other four locations will be sold individually.
The cabinet is also planning to open up the casino market to new providers from 2017 – with two licences up for grabs. That will bring the total number of casinos in the Netherlands to 16, owned by seven different companies.
Holland Casino is currently in financial trouble due to declining visitor numbers. All potential new owners will have to maintain the
same strict anti-gambling policy as Holland Casino currently oper- ates, Mr. Teeven said.
Ministers have also reached agreement on deregulating inter- net gambling, which is currently illegal in the Netherlands unless run by the state monopoly. According to the Financieele Dagblad, the market will be opened up in 2015. Companies will have to apply for a licence and meet rules on preventing gambling addiction. They will also have to pay gambling tax of 20 per cent, contribute 0.5 per cent of turnover to a gambling prevention fund and 1.5 per cent to the gaming authori- ty. Lotteries will also be opened up on condition that 40 per cent of profits go to good causes.
