Cruising for bruising As a cruise sales manager, I found ITV’s The Cruise Show cringeworthy. I have received complaints from clients who have booked Royal Princess and also from a couple who wanted to cancel – until I reassured them on the basis of my experiences of Princess and of Royal Princess. Cruiser251
I would think that other cruise lines will be worried that their business will be affected by the negativity surrounding the show. Hello Sailor
Prices not kids’ play Story: Two-thirds support price cap on summer holidays Why should I subsidise people who have children? This is what would happen if the market were distorted and off-peak fares hiked. Well Informed Travel Person
We must fight MPs Analysis: Families think firms are profiteering
I flagged up this issue in my Travel Weekly column back in January. At that time, few people believed my view that this issue would become a major political football in which politicians and media would seek to make the travel
industry look like a nasty profiteering sector that takes advantage of hardworking families. Sadly, that prediction is coming true. With the run-up to the 2015 general election we will see politicians bash the industry more intensely. We need to mount a major industry PR campaign to set the record straight. Steve Dunne
AWTE’s 60 for 60 list Story: AWTE reveals 60 most influential women in the industry I worked in the call centre for Air2000/First Choice Airways at Manchester airport between 2000-05. People would sometimes call to speak to Chris Browne (pictured) and ask for “him” to be put on the line. I always took great pride in telling them our managing director was a woman. Cheryl Reynolds
A definite contender for inclusion on the AWTE list would be Jennifer Brown, who set up Royal Caribbean Cruise Line with just one member of staff and three Caribbean fly-cruise ships to sell. She left 22 years later leaving a very successful fly-cruise product. Brian Hordon, cruise training and travel consultant, North Waltham, Basingstoke

LETTERS OF THE WEEK
Story: Malaysia Airlines offers refunds until Thursday
It seems to me that sadly with the events of the past six months, Malaysia Airlines will suffer beyond recovery. My thoughts are with all the families and friends of the victims of this tragic event. Max Gee
I don’t see why the airline should not recover. Of course, it’s really terrible what’s happened lately, and hard to imagine the fear during the last few moments for all the passengers on both flights. But from what I think we do know, [missing] flight MH370 was functioning correctly for hours after it went silent and right up until it ran out of fuel, indicating there may have been human involvement in its loss. And last week’s MH17 flight was also functioning normally, so there’s no real reason for future passengers to feel the airline is not safe. What happened to MH17 could have happened to any aircraft in that airspace that day. Keith
