The Travel Brit Awards celebrated the cream of the domestic travel trade at Warner Leisure Hotels’ Nidd Hall Hotel in Yorkshire. Check out our six-page special from the event

More than 200 leading travel agents and operators descended on Warner Leisure Hotels’ Nidd Hall at the start of the month for the annual Travel Brit Awards. The event, which is organised

by the members of Abta’s UK tourism and leisure group, featured fun networking and training sessions before a glittering red, white and blue masquerade dinner. The members of the group

are Bourne Leisure, Great Rail Journeys, Hoseasons, Shearings, SuperBreak and VisitEngland. Caroline Brown, commercial

director of Shearings and chairwoman of the group, said the success of the event demonstrated how far the domestic sector had come in engaging the trade and educating agents on the earning potential

from selling domestic holidays. “By becoming a UK travel expert and proactively marketing to their database, agents are gifting themselves an opportunity to capture that second UK booking from customers who may have previously booked direct,” she said. “Proactive domestic-focused agents such as those at the Travel Brits – our top 200 – are already aware that the average booking value of a holiday at home can often be substantially higher than on many overseas holidays, leading to enhanced commission- earning opportunities.” The Travel Brits took place near

Harrogate in Yorkshire, as the Tour de France visited the county for its Grand Depart. Lucy Huxley, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly Group, which was

media partner for the event, said: “Seeing Harrogate in all its glory preparing for the start of the Tour de France was a fantastic way to arrive for the Travel Brits. “The agents who attended

are full of enthusiasm for domestic sales, and in the members of Abta’s UK travel and leisure group you have an incredible line-up of truly trade-friendly operators.” She added: “When

VisitEngland won the Best Tourist Board award at this year’s Travel Weekly Globe Travel Award, it was a real landmark moment for the domestic industry. “Through a range of trade initiatives, including the Wallace and Gromit Holidays at Home are Great campaign, the domestic sector is joining forces to

fantastic effect to engage and recognise the value of the trade.”
