Central America fl y-cruises, on Adonia, in February 2015. They will visit Colon in Panama, Puerto Limon in Costa Rica and Cayenne in French Guyana, as well as sailing into the Amazon River. One of the most popular itineraries in South America is between Buenos Aires in Argentina and Valparaiso in Chile. It takes passengers around Cape Horn, through the Chilean fjords and close to the area’s mighty glaciers. Itineraries are for 10 days or two weeks and often include a day in Stanley in the Falkland Islands. Cruises of two months or more that circumnavigate South America are also popular as they are a great and safe way to see so much of the continent, tick off the Panama Canal and, often, cruise the Amazon River as well. For time-poor clients, there are shorter sectors. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, for instance, has a debut 76-day voyage around South America on Europa 2 next year, available in sectors of up to 19 days. Antarctica offers a great adventure, with the typical itineraries including sailing the Drake Passage, cruising close to giant icebergs and

visiting penguin colonies (the latter only on ships that hold up to 500 passengers). The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators said numbers last winter were up 9% to 37,405, with Britons making up 8% of the total. Hurtigruten UK Managing Director Kathryn Beadle said: “People have seen Antarctica on TV, seen the fantastic sights and want to go. These are not just regular cruisers but people going to places they never dreamed they would visit – and often a cruise is the only way to go.”
