uluLocal was established to help local businesses grow and local consumers get great value. The idea came from Mike Tapia’s strong background as a CEO and


marketing director, together with his own experience as a single parent and local shopper. Mike saw from his frequent shopping trips that local shops and businesses could really improve their marketing. His simple thought was: “Why not use the same promotion and marketing techniques the big retailers use, but apply them to smaller businesses to help them grow?” So, LuluLocal was born and, after two years of development, the first franchise opened in 2013 in Tunbridge Wells and is successfully promoting a wide variety of local shops and businesses. This is done through the LuluLocal website, built specifically for each franchise territory. Here, people can come to see the latest offers for their local area, as well as seeing them on Facebook, Twitter and via email. LuluLocal also provides additional marketing services to local businesses, such as voucher booklets. Late last year, Rooney Anand, Chief Executive of the 2,200 outlet Greene King pubs and restaurants group, had the following to say about the online voucher culture: “It is something that has been big in the US for the last 20 years and it

is now here to stay in this country.”’ LuluLocal’s business clients subscribe to the service and are billed on a monthly basis, leading to recurring revenues that grow every month as clients are added.
