Hamamatsu Photonics will be introducing the Orca-Flash4.0 V2, a four-megapixel scientific CMOS camera ideal for a range of microscopy applications. The camera has new features such as two scan speeds, a readout mode for light sheet microscopy, and USB 3.0 and Camera Link interfaces. Users have the option of running the camera in a fast or quieter slow scan mode. Hamamatsu will also introduce the updated range of Multi-Pixel Photon Counter (MPPC) detectors, which utilise a Geiger-mode pixelated avalanche photodiode structure for ultra-low-level light detection.

Micro-PMT, a photomultiplier tube (PMT) that combines the small size of a solid-state detector with the performance of a PMT.

including a high power 1,550nm laser diode (pictured). The diode has a 50kHz line width and an output power of 100mW with fibre Bragg grating stabilisation. It is supplied in a hermetically sealed butterfly housing that incorporates TEC, thermistor and monitor photodiode. The operating temperature range is -40 to +70°C. The fibre is terminated with an FC/APC connector. Also on show will be an IR laser diode module with 0.9mW output power at 850nm and low beam divergence of 0.5mrad. The temperature range is -10 to +50°C and the product has a current consumption of 30mA. The module is military-qualified, shock-resistant, and is encased in a small housing measuring 7 x 23mm. A third product is a high-

brightness 635nm laser diode, delivering 5W from a 105μm core fibre. The diode is hermetically sealed, measuring 75 x 42 x 24mm. It can be supplied in conductively cooled or actively cooled versions, incorporating TEC, thermistor, PD, and pilot beam on demand. Finally, the company will show its 976nm narrow linewidth fibre- coupled laser diodes, available in 50W or 60W output from a 105μm optical fibre. The diodes offer a spectral bandwidth of <1nm. The units have feedback protection to prevent damage and the optical fibre can be custom terminated.

Haas Laser Technology has been named as a finalist for the 2014 Prism Awards, for its Beam Waist Analyzer Monitor (BWA- MON) in the category of advanced manufacturing. The BWA-MON and software enable real time beam measurement of a laser.

The design contains no moving components and provides instantaneous measurement and analysis of the laser beam’s spatial profile, circularity, centroid, astigmatism and M2

values. The

monitor can be used either separately or as a component of the Haas Laser Beam Analyzer System. Michael Scaggs, senior optical design engineer at Haas, said: ‘In every laser application, the laser beam profile provides valuable information for the most efficient use of the laser.’

Holo/Or will display its multi- focal (MF) diffractive optical element (DOE) at this year’s event. The MF-DOE allows a single collimated incident beam to focus simultaneously at several focal lengths along the propagation axis. It can be manufactured on a window as a general solution, for a variety of operating working distances, or as a hybrid element on a plano- convex lens for tailored solutions. MF elements are mainly use for microscopy and laser cutting.


Ibsen Photonics will display its new Freedom UV-NIR spectrometer for

integrators of analytical and process control instruments. The spectrometer offers high

efficiency across the 190-1,100nm range, compact size of 50 x 50 x 15mm, and robust and athermal performance. The high broadband efficiency is obtained with a new transmission grating, developed specifically for the Freedom UV-NIR. In contrast to typical blazed gratings, this new grating provides nearly constant diffraction efficiency over the 190 to 1,100nm range for both polarisations. The small size, athermal performance, and robustness make the UV-NIR spectrometer ideal for process control out-of-the-lab environments as well as handheld and portable instruments. Freedom UV-NIR comes in two

standard variants with either a low cost front-illuminated CCD or a low noise back-thinned CCD, but more

detector options are available upon request.

IDQ will be

exhibiting its ID120 series. The series consists of compact single-photon detector modules

based on silicon avalanche photodiodes that are sensitive in the visible spectral range. The series features quantum

efficiency of up to 60 per cent at 650nm, and up to 80 per cent at 800nm. The active area is 500µm, and the temperature, quantum efficiency and dead-time are all adjustable.

Functionalities include: tunable quantum efficiency; tunable temperature of the APD; C-mount, SM1, Thorlabs cage compatible; inclusive universal network adapter (110/220V); NIM and LLTTL outputs; and a spectral range of 350 to 1,000nm.

Imec and its partners will showcase imec’s hyperspectral imaging sensor integrated into different commercial cameras. The company’s hyperspectral technology monolithically integrates spectral filters on a CMOS-based image sensor to realise a mass reproducible solution with size and cost reduction. Applications include industrial inspection, medical diagnosis, security and surveillance.

Imec will also present its fully integrated silicon photonics platform for high-performance optical transceivers. Realisations include low-loss strip waveguides, highly efficient grating couplers, and 25Gb/s germanium waveguide photodiodes. Imec’s silicon photonics portfolio is available for companies through a cost-sharing multi-project wafer service.
