Tools of the trade

As well as seeing the latest products on the Hilti stand, hirers will be encouraged to get hands-on with some of them.

While Hilti will obviously be using the Executive Hire Show to highlight new and enhanced products in its portfolio for 2014, it will also be focusing on the issue of older equipment that hirers may have in their fleets and how efficiently they manage their maintenance. Walid Hussain, the company’s National Tool Hire Manager

(UK), believes this is

their equipment replacement cycles during the downturn, resulting, in some cases, in hirers operating an increased proportion of older items in their fleets that are not cost-effective to run.

“Businesses of all sizes need to manage their costs efficiently, and we want to explain to visitors the KPIs (key performance indicators) they should be aware of throughout the life of equipment. Under our Lifetime Service support, Hilti will collect, repair and return purchased equipment for up to two years, with a subsequent repair cost limit for the life of the tool, which also eases the workload on hirers’ workshops.”

By way of illustration, Hilti’s stand will include a scaled down, but fully functional, repair station, similar to those at its UK service centre in Glasgow. Visitors will be able to watch technicians in action and see what is involved in carefully checking, repairing and calibrating tools, and the speed at which this is done. “Hirers will also see the scanners that identify a product and display its service history, the array of parts and specialist tools that staff have at hand to work on intricate components like HAV reduction systems, and they can compare this against the speed and efficiency of their own service operations.”

Also making an impact at the Show - quite literally - will be a new rotating laser for horizontal and slope applications. Designed for robustness, it has special cushioning inside to protect the sensors. Indeed, visitors will be invited to drop the product from height on

Hilti’s stand to test its durability. Exact model details will be announced at the Show, and the company says it has been developed for hirers seeking a product that can be used in many work environments. “Hirers want equipment that can withstand tough usage, and if this laser gets knocked over on site, it will keep working. Operation is controlled simply using one button and it can be used with a specially designed automatic tripod that moves the laser beam up or down to the height of the receiver for genuine one-person operation. We believe that survey equipment represents an important hire opportunity and this product addresses hirers’ requirements.”

The stand line-up will also include a new and enhanced version of the TE 80-ATC AVR combi-hammer. Designed to offer greater power and less vibration, it is lighter in weight and Hilti claims it can increase operator productivity.

In addition, Show visitors can expect to see a proportion of the stand devoted to the manufacturer’s cordless products. “Some hirers still tend to associate Hilti chiefly with corded equipment, while others regard battery powered products generally as being less powerful than their conventional counterparts,” said Walid. “However, the on-going developments in Lithium-ion technology are delivering great advances in performance and running times, to the point that a tool like our cordless TE 30 A-36 combi-hammer can actually deliver more power than its mains driven

equivalent. We will be displaying a wide variety of cordless products that hirers can offer in their fleets, from screw guns and grinders,
