EXECUTIVE REPORT continued
visiting the shop, it makes sense for Manchester to be a satellite, with calls handled by the head office, which also generates all paperwork. Using the Sirius computer system from Canadian software developer, Orion, Risca print outs a picking list remotely at Manchester to assemble for collection or delivery. The computers are all linked, and the depot has PCs with cameras for face-to-face communication.
“As at Risca, care has been taken to ensure that the workshop addresses staff Health & Safety issues. A wall-mounted cold water pressure washer is used to clean off-hired equipment outside, and all filters from dust control units are washed and dried in a dedicated drying room. After a thorough servicing and testing, each item is sprayed with GT85, a protective coating to deter water and dirt, which also keeps products looking in great condition.”
As well as machines from suppliers like SPE, the fleet includes machines that the company sources from less well-known manufacturers, such as Airtec of Switzerland and the German company, Wolf. The line-up also encompasses site equipment contractors might require, such as work lights from The Hire Supply Company, Brendon pressure washers and diamond products.
The company also stocks a variety of tools and consumables.
“Because of the specialist nature of the equipment, we often re-hire to other companies. Similarly, if any of our customers need an item we do not offer, such as a mobile tower or generator, we will arrange this through a hirer we know of in the area they are working in.
“Our satellite model is one that we can replicate anywhere, with new depots continuing to be linked to the head office. With Risca handling the south of the country, and Manchester now enabling us to serve more customers in the north, our next target is to open a third branch within the next year to cover the east.”
