The American Pharmaceutical Review team regards you, the reader, as a partner. You subscribe to APR, circulate the ideas you fi nd interesting, reference pages in the lab, submit suggestions, and contribute high quality content. APR, in turn, publishes what you fi nd most benefi cial, disseminating essential information to as many key players as possible. We share a mutual goal to advance the production of quality medicines, and by collaborating in knowledge and in technique, we work together to achieve this. This partnership has held strong since the publication of American Pharmaceutical Review’s fi rst issue in September 1998, fi fteen years ago, and this edition celebrates our many years of collaboration with you, our reader and partner.
A plethora of technological advancements, regulatory initiatives, and novel research and manufacturing processes have come to fruition over the last 15 years. This anniversary issue honors progression in pharmaceutical science with several special features that refl ect on the past and predict what the future holds for the industry.
Michael Pohlscheidt (Genentech) spotlights biotechnology products that have shaped the pharmaceutical industry since the 1980s. The approval of many monoclonal antibodies and therapeutic proteins has signifi cantly helped patients worldwide and Dr. Pohlscheidt stresses the major role that the development of these products will continue to play in the industry’s future.
Ralph Lipp (Lipp Life Sciences) hones in on the signifi cant progress made over the past 15 years in the science of oral drug delivery, which has introduced novel and important medicines to patients. Dr. Lipp also predicts future innovations in drug development.
Additional experts outline hurdles and milestones in pharmaceutical microbiology experienced throughout the years in this issue’s roundtable. Supplemental to the September/October edition are the Endotoxin Detection installment covering remarkable developments in this field as well as the Bioprocessing Timeline, with content contributed by several leading biotechnologists in today’s industry. This issue also focuses on nonlinear optical imaging, freeze-drying processes, drug targeting, micronization of particles, and much more.
We are excited to have the opportunity to meet with our partners at upcoming events. The highly anticipated AAPS Annual Meeting is right around the corner and we encourage you to stop by our booth, #2243. We look forward to the ever-informative Eastern Analytical Symposium and encourage you to connect with us here as well.
Thank you to our loyal readers, authors, Editorial Advisory Board members, and advertisers. Your partnership and support has allowed American Pharmaceutical Review to equip professionals in drug delivery, manufacturing, analytical technology, formulation, process control, regulatory aff airs, and others with innovative ideas and vital knowledge for their applications. With this continued collaboration, APR will prove resourceful for many more years to come.
Best wishes,
