INDUSTRY NEWS COMMENT: THE O2 CORNER Claire Darley

A NEW Telefonica-Financial Times survey of more than 12,000 of today’s ‘Millennial generation’ in 27 countries shows that the vast majority are true believers in all that technology has to offer, and more than two thirds believe that ‘technology creates more opportunities for all’. The survey also reveals these 18-30 year- olds have concerns about the economy, environment,

social inequality and personal freedoms along with regional differences regarding optimism and opportunity. Some respondents stood out from the rest. For example, 11 per cent were identified as ‘Millennial Leaders’, those who believe they are on the cutting edge of technology and are most likely to drive change, with 44 per cent of them believing technology has been a key influence. The survey revealed some interesting insights into the many issues impacting this generation, such as a new gender gap in how men and women view their use of technology and its impact on their lives. For example, 80 per cent of men polled consider themselves on the cutting-edge of technology, compared to 69 per cent of women. The survey also shows that the future leaders of the world are expected to come from Latin America as the region has six countries in the top 10 with the greatest percentage of Millennial Leaders. It is imperative then that companies and governments take these views seriously as their success will depend on knowing what is important to these Generation Y adults, such as increasing access to technology and improving society, and working with them to make these changes. Telefonica is engaged in several significant activities that make a real impact on the lives of people and the society they live in. For more information visit telefonica.com/millennials

It’s exciting to be back in the market under the Spectralink brand.” The company plans to grow its global sale force significant-
