ends, roof and platform with Polly Scale Grimy Black. Grab rails were painted with Polly Scale EL Yellow. Fortunately, the kit includes Prime Mover Decals DL&W wood caboose set. This set is perfect and makes for a gor- geous finished model. I applied the de- cals and sealed them with Polly Scale Semi-Gloss clear. A light misting of Polly Scale Flat Clear knocks down some of the shine and leaves a film of “grime” on the windows. The final step is to attach the Hi-Tech details brake hoses, Kadee trucks and couplers. A little bit of Grimy Black paint makes these parts look well used. I dabbed some rust colored chalk on the trucks, couplers and ends as well. A lit- tle bit of weathering on the sides and ends would not be completely uncalled for since these cabooses saw heavy us- age in the steam era and in coal coun- try. Both of those factors are not con- ducive to having clean equipment! For me, seeing unique and prototypi- cally accurate rolling stock on my trains is something I take great joy in. Watching this little wooden hack roll through DL&W based scenery is im- mensely rewarding. Limited produc- tion kits like this one make that joy something that is well within the realm of possibility. Because of the wide range of railroads that had this type of caboose, that joy is not just for fans of the DL&W.
