The joint meeting of the Legislative and Tax and Natural Resources and Environment committees focused on how the oil and gas industry in Texas is affecting ranch landowners. Rhonda Dudley, Comanche, and TSCRA Director Bennie Bock, New Braunfels, donned plastic gloves and wielded the butcher knife in the Merck Animal Health meat cutting contest.


Merck Animal Health was one of the spon- sors of the 2013 Cattle Raisers Convention and had an exhibit in the Cattle Raisers Expo. During the afternoons, they en- tertained the crowd with a meat cutting contest. Dr. Jessica Igo, director, meat science with the Center for Research and Knowledge Management in the Department of Research, Education & Innovation at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and Lee Barr with Merck explain that contes- tants draw a random number, and then are challenged to cut that many ounces of beef. The closest cut wins.


TSCRA Director James Danglemayr, Muenster, tried his hand at cutting an exact portion of beef at the Merck Animal Health meat cutting demonstration and contest.


Gatlan Gray won a hand- some set of saddlebags for making one of the closest cuts in the Merck Animal Health meat cut- ting contest.
