Now an APHA event, cowboy mounted shooting opens a new market for racing-bred paints.

CMSA Partnership Opens Up a

New Market for Speed-Bred Paints Breeders and owners of speed-bred Paint Horses might consider marketing their horses to a new market: cowboy mounted shooting. APHA recently announced a new partner- ship with the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, open- ing up new avenues for Paints competing in CMSA events. Cowboy mounted shooting continues to grow in popu-

larity. Competitions highlight exhibitors’ marksmanship and horsemanship, requiring them to pilot their mount through a course at a gallop while accurately shooting balloon targets from the saddle. Demanding speed, agility and a good mind, cowboy mounted shooting is a natural fit for speed-bred Paint Horses.

APHA Incentive Means Substantial Savings for Older

Horse Registrations American Paint Horse Association registration fees for older horses are now more affordable, thanks to the registra- tion special currently offered. Older horses with at least one Paint parent who are eligible for either Regular Registry or Solid Paint-Bred registration are impacted, and any APHA member may take advantage of this special pricing. Horses eligible for Regular Registry ages 2 and older may be

registered for just $100, while horses ages 3 and older who are eligible for Solid Paint-Bred registration may be registered for $50. Members who choose to complete the registration online can save up to $400 when registering Regular Registry horses ages 2 and older and $50 when registering Solid Paint-Breds ages 3 and older. Horses with two Quarter Horse or Thor- oughbred parents, commonly called cropout horses, are not

APHA as soon as possible—this will avoid year-end award dis- qualification for having not reported a gelding status change. To report a gelding, complete the Request for Corrected

Certificate form and submit it to APHA along with your horse’s original registration certificate. The change will be made free of charge, and a corrected certificate will be mailed to you in two to four weeks, unless a rush fee is paid.
