Stakes Results Flashthechicks battles defending champion in Mister Lewie Memorial Stakes
Though two-time defending Mister Lewie Memorial Stakes champion Barney Ofi eld made a valiant effort to win his third consecutive title, Flashthechicks led the fi eld from start to fi nish and earned the win on April 20 at Remington Park. His fi rst Mister Lewie Memorial Stakes title, the win also gave defending APHA World Champion Flashthechicks his fi rst stakes win of 2013. Covering the 400-yard distance in :20.13, the 4-year-old sorrel solid gelding by Royal Quick Flash and out of Game Chicken earned a speed index of 82. Taking home $24,634 for the victory, Flashthechicks now has lifetime earnings of $303,273. Owned and bred by Shirley Wheeler of Boynton, Oklahoma, Flashthechicks is trained by Luis Villafranco and ridden by G.R. Carter Jr. Foiled in his attempt for a third consecutive championship in the stakes race, Barney Ofi eld fi nished second in :20.22. Last year’s Champion Solid Paint-Bred Aged Horse and Aged Gelding, Barney Ofi eld took home $8,878—his lifetime earnings now stand at $175,101. Owned by Julie Haywood and Joni Willis of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Barney Ofi eld—who is by Judys Lineage and out of Shero—was bred by Marion Hoskin of Ada, Oklahoma. Eddie Lee Willis trains the gelding, who was ridden by Jimmy Brooks.
Dos Jakes took third place in the 400-yard race, earning $4,057 and a 79 speed index for his :20.25 effort. APHA’s 2012 Champion Aged Stallion, Dos Jakes now has lifetime earnings of $33,564 for owner Nancy Roberts of Lockesburg, Arkansas. The 5-year-old sorrel overo stallion by Dos Poruno and out of Bug Lover (QH) was bred by Milford Roberts Jr., trained by Bernard Baca and ridden by Benito Baca.
