Testerman Exhibits 2013 OYE Grand Champion Steer

This year’s Grand Champion Steer for the "World's Largest Junior Livestock Show", was shown by Mylah Tester- man of the Hollis FFA. Mylah and her steer, Radar, depict exactly what champions are made of...hard work and dedication.

Early to bed and early to rise is how the saying goes, but for show families like the Testermans, the normal day means getting to the barn very early in the morning and getting back to the house very late in the evening. Show animals must be fed and watered, washed and dried, walked and worked daily to make them great. Mylah spent many hours taking care of Radar and preparing him for the 2013 OYE. Radar didnt get all of Mylah’s attention though. She had show lambs and show pigs to work with as well. Working and Showing livestock is a way of life for Mylah. After watching her older sister, Blair, show for a couple of years, Mylah started showing in jackpot shows as soon as she was allowed. At the age of 9, she became a member of the Harmon County 4-H, which qualifi ed her to show in the Oklahoma Youth Expo for the fi rst time. She has shown livestock in the OYE for seven years now and has made the Sale of Champions six of those seven years. At this year’s expo, Mylah had three other animals qualify for the OYE sale - her Hamp lamb, her Crossbred lamb and her Chester pig. This was the fi rst time one exhibitor qualifi ed three species for the sale in the same year. Radar set a record at the Sale of Champions, bringing in $62,000. As the exhibitor of the grand steer, Mylah was also awarded use of a trailer for one year sponsored by Central State Trailers. Mylah’s younger sister, Hadie, made the sale this year with her Reserve Champion Southdown lamb. This was Hadie’s fi rst time to show at the OYE, what a way to start! Mylah and Hadie had a tough act to follow with older sister Blair making the Sale of Champions seven times and the grand drive three of those seven times before graduat- ing from high school.

ing! Not only from the Hollis community, but surrounding communities as well. I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate them.” When asked what she planned to do with the premium sale earnings, Mylah said she will be buying more steers.

The tradition continues. Mylah is the daughter of Harmon Electric members, Charlie and Jane Testerman. Congratulations Mylah! 296701 Mylah especially wanted to show appreciation for the support she has received. “The support has been overwhelm-
