PLASA’s pro-audio push UNITED KINGDOM

The AudioLab initiative aims to enhance PLASA Show’s audio offerings at its first exhibition at London’s ExCeL. Here’s what the pro-audio community can expect…

THE REBRANDED PLASA Show this month will attempt to

address the needs of the pro- audio community with a new feature: AudioLab, a dedicated zone incorporating an arena, a theatre and an interactive ‘laboratory’ that promises to push audio technology to its limits and well beyond. “The AudioLab Arena is the place to experience the best sound systems that the world has to offer. We’ve created a space where visitors can fully immerse themselves in sound. The 2,000sqm venue has been designed in consultation with the industry and has two goals. The first is to give exhibitors a world-class facility in which to demonstrate their products, and the second is to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand-up,” said show manager Jen Barratt.

Running in conjunction with the AudioLab is PLASA’s Professional Development Programme, with separate programmes on live and installed sound.

Highlights in the AudioLab

Theatre include ‘Touring Live Sound Meets Broadcast Audio’, highlighting the areas of common approach as well as possible conflicts; ‘Live Sound Engineers Question Time’, whose guest panel includes Barry Bartlett (Ray Charles, Chaka Khan, Damon Albarn), and Rampton (Chase & Status, Basement Jaxx, The Libertines) among others; and ‘Do You Trust Acoustic Models?’ presented by the Institute of Acoustics. On the showfloor, Focusrite will be showcasing RedNet, its latest range of Dante-powered audio networking interfaces. RedNet 1 and RedNet 2 offer

Focusrite’s RedNet 1. The range of RedNet boxes will be on show at PLASA London

eight or 16 channels of line-level analogue in and out, with 24-bit A-D and D-A conversion. RedNet 3 interfaces a digital audio system and components to the Dante network via AES/EBU, S/PDIF and ADAT connections, while RedNet 4 adds eight of Focusrite’s next-generation remote controlled preamps/line inputs with two selectable DIs to the Dante system. RedNet 5 & 6 provide a bridge between the Dante network and Pro Tools HD or MADI systems. Also on show will be the RedNet Dante PCIe card, which delivers up to 128 channels I/O for any Dante network as well as a number of software control solutions including RedNet and Dante Control.

Following the announcement

of the UK distribution agreement earlier this year at PLASA Focus, LMC Audio will feature a range from new UK-manufactured pro- audio brand Inspired Audio. In addition, LMC will be

showcasing the latest in digital console technology from Yamaha, Midas and Allen & Heath. Other brands on the stand include Martin Audio, Nexo, DPA, Soundcraft, Sennheiser, and Shure. Managing director Paul

Hinkly comments: “This exhibition becomes ever more beneficial for LMC as an opportunity to connect to existing and new hire companies, venues, engineers and specifiers and we look forward to meeting

and available in 12in, 15in, 2x15in and 2x18in formats. NTi Audio will present the

XL2 Audio and Acoustic Analyzer for live sound, installed sound, studio and environmental noise applications. With the latest firmware extension the XL2 now supports the measurement of Noise criteria, covering the relevant NC and NR requirements. Using the XL2, acoustic consultants can obtain, assess and document all relevant Noise criteria on the spot, directly after the measurement, saving time and increasing efficiency. The XL2 STIPA Option incorporates the latest STIPA Standard (STIPA V4.0 2011). See a demonstration of how to measure Speech Intelligibility using the XL2 and the TalkBox, including tips and tricks to make the measurement and documentation that much easier. The Glandmaster will take

centre stage on the Sommer Cable stand. The flexible and sturdy solution for cable splicings is available in a range of sizes and can be labelled individually either by laser engraving or via a printed shrinking tube. With fibre optic systems from Sommer Cable, the Glandmaster may be combined with the FOC protective tube to protect the sensitive buffer tubes against damage during transport and laying. n www.plasashow.com
