Obstfelder: IT-based networks and modules linked IBC and a remote studio in Frankfurt
On stream: Owen believes that QTube InterSite will significantly reduce costs
Quantel — QTube InterSite: This stream- based workflow “will save a whole load of time, giving people instant access to content [no matter where it is], save bandwidth, and save money on asset management systems,” said Steve Owen, marketing director. Quantel has revamped its editing systems to use HTTP streams instead of just talking direct to the storage, so they can access content from anywhere — if it is close by it is native bit rate, if it is distant it is low. When the edit is published for playout the system conforms the high quality video and moves it, without the user needing to do anything.

Zemel: Cloud OnAir can effectively become a broadcaster’s remote IT department
SintecMedia — CloudOnAir: “We’ve taken our OnAir product and simplified it for medium and small broadcasters (up to 50 users), putting it on the cloud,” said Tomer Zemel, product expert. Its first user is Israeli news channel i24, which is using it for scheduling, programming, promotion and sales. “We are the IT department of this company on the cloud. All they have to do is go to CloudOnAir on the web. There is no need for dedicated technical personnel.” Two more broadcasters will be using it by the end of the year and the company signed up a further 10 at IBC.

Scalable Video Systems — IT-based live production system: This offers “the world’s first fully IT-based live production system” that “signals the death of traditional video switchers.” Its modules can be anywhere, all combined to add processing power, and “the complete infrastructure in the remote location is under your control,” said product manager Jürgen Obstfelder. “When you add units, they all have access to all the functions of the others and behave as one frame accurate device.” It uses off-the-shelf (easily upgradable) graphic cards, controlled via a completely dynamic panel. “You just get offered what you need at this moment,” he said.
