Fast Edi: Edius 7 gets realtime multilayer 4K + 3D editing
Up the resolution: Leader’s new LV5490 SD to 4K multi-waveform
Sporting chance for Ultra HD: Uys shows off the new 4K Replay Caddie
Grass Valley — Edius 7: The latest version of this editing software supports multilayer 4K and 3D production, and is open to third-party input and output hardware. “No other nonlinear video editing software gives users the realtime speed and functionality that Edius does,” claimed SVP marketing, Mike Cronk. “Its compatibility with all major file formats, the ability to edit in realtime without rendering — even in 4K with its native 64-bit architecture — means that Edius 7 is an ideal solution for either broadcast or post production environments.” It supports I/O hardware from Blackmagic Design, Matrox and (soon) AJA Video Systems, and more file formats (including XAVC/XAVC S and AVC-Ultra).

Grass Valley — GV Director: This nonlinear production system with video server, graphics generator, and multiviewer is “both more and less than a switcher,” said Matt Allard, market
Allard: European broadcasters are embracing the ease of use of GV Director
development manager. There are already lots of pre-orders for it — most from western European broadcasters. “It has an iPad type of touch pad that a lot of new entrants
to the business will love, but traditional broadcasters are also embracing the technology,” added Said Bacho, SVP EMEA. “What we’re seeing in traditional broadcasters is a different model of use. Instead of having a technical director there may be a production assistant,” said Allard. “Many are thinking of using it to create second screen content,” particularly for sport.

Monarch of all it streams: The new Matrox Monarch HD can record and stream at the same time
Matrox Video — Monarch HD: This €799 video streaming and recording appliance allows users to simultaneously stream a live event and record a master-quality version for editing. From any HDMI input source, such as a camera or switcher, it will generate an H.264-encoded stream compliant with RTSP or RTMP protocol at bitrates suitable for live streaming. It also records a high- quality MP4 or .MOV file to an SD card, USB drive, or network-mapped drive. It is remotely controlled via a web browser and has one-touch stream and record buttons.

Joseph Fiber Solutions — 4K Replay Caddie: This “dramatically reduces the cost of 4K replay devices,” and should make it easier for Ultra HD to be used for sports production, claimed Gideon Uys, Director, Joseph Fiber Solutions. It is based on Bluebell fibre transport, and the interface is designed to be used with an AJA Corvid Ultra and Sony PMW-F55 4K camera. “The Caddie serves as a CWM-based multiplex for OBs: cameras, video, audio and data, all in the same box. It is custom manufactured to each customer’s needs. There are currently 14 different configurations,” he said.

Leader Instruments — LV5490: This SD to 4K multi-standard multi- waveform monitor supports all standard video resolutions from 525 up to 3840x2160 and 4096x2160. It has four 3G-SDI/HD-SDI/SD-SDI input channels plus a high-quality, wide-viewing-angle 1920x1080 9-inch flat-panel display that allows precise matching of studio or outside-broadcast cameras. It also doubles as a picture monitor and can downconvert 4K into an interleave-sampled 1920x1080-pixel monitor feed. An S-LOG2 option enables cinematographers to make full use of the Sony F65’s 4K imager, extended chroma gamut and 16-bit linear dynamic range. Test features include: waveform, vector and picture monitoring; SDI signal data analysis; cyclic-redundancy-check error; embedded- audio error; event log; data dump; and timing display.

Mixing up a Mojito for Ultra HD: The new Matrox Mojito 4K card
Matrox Video — Mojito 4K: This new Ultra HD card is designed to work with Adobe’s Creative Cloud editing tools on Windows. It lets users see every 10-bit pixel of each 4K frame in realtime, and then deliver projects in full 4K using Sony’s XAVC codec at up to 600Mbps. It supports 4096x2160, 3840x2160, 2048x1080, HD and SD output resolutions at frame rates of up to 60fps. The ¾-length PCIe card has five full-size BNC connectors, 16 channels of SDI embedded audio and bi-level and tri-level genlock input. It uses highly optimised Adobe Mercury Transmit plug-ins for Premiere Pro CC and Adobe SpeedGrade, and offers WYSIWYG support for After Effects CC and Photoshop CC.

Making the switch: The new 3-in-1 Platinum IP3 router
Harris Broadcast — Platinum IP3 router: This is claimed to be the world’s first three-layer router, incorporating audio, video and IP data paths in the same switch. It allows frames to be combined without additional hardware, and routers can be scaled in operation without taking them offline. The basic unit switches up to 576x1024 multiformat signals in a 28U frame, which means 2048x2048 can be accommodated in two racks, with redundant crosspoints for security. It can include multi- viewers, synchronisers and audio
multiplexing and embedding, further saving rack space and power, and simplifying systems engineering and installation. It will cover ultra high-bandwidth needs, including 4K and beyond.
