Word for word:

Three new TriCasters plus new software expands what the all-in-one switchers can do

NewTek — TriCaster 860, TriCaster 460, and TriCaster 410:The TriCaster line has three new additions (the 4M/E 410 + 460, and 8M/E 860) and all-new software with such features as social media integration, MOS control for use with newsroom computer systems, and pan/tilt/zoom camera control from the built-in joystick. MIDI support means “you can do complicated mixes and recall them on a single button. It also gives us MIDI audio control,” explained sales engineer Ted Spruill (above). There are also 10 animation buffers for graphics you need most often; users can input an IP address or URL to take a remote camera feed; and holographic virtual sets that use 360˚ photographs allow the creation of stand-up locations to do camera moves in. “You can also create layers in Photoshop and slide the presenter behind them.” www.newtek.com

Nexidia’s Dialogue Search can search millions of clips in seconds

Nexidia — Dialogue Search: This enables spoken word search of large media libraries independent of metadata. “It is not speech to text. It uses a phonetic index to search anything someone has said. We can search millions of clips in seconds,” said KJ Kandell, senior director, media product management. On a laptop, a search of 75,914 assets in 5538 hours of video took less than four seconds, and it can find instances of a word within a short time of another word or phrase. It is a lot cheaper than having to do word for word transcripts, and can find words that might not get input as metadata. www.nexidia.com

Building castles from photos: Lancaster shows PFTrack Wide Baseline Feature Matching

The Pixel Farm — PFTrack Wide Baseline Feature Matching: This can automatically turn iPhone (or any other) photos into a 3D model. “Each image has shared points, and the software is looking at every image for common features to triangulate them into locations on the model,” said managing director Michael Lancaster. It is a lot less expensive than the normal method of using laser scanning, which can’t differentiate people from the place. The feature matching currently takes a couple of minutes, but should speed up once optimised, and also allows users to retain all the texture from the photo. www.thepixelfarm.co.uk

Kandell: Nexidia QC can offer quality control speeds of 30 to 100 times real time

Nexidia — QC: This automates many quality control processes that are currently done manually, such as verifying video description information, and making sure that closed captions are in the right place and in the right language. “It can look at closed caption files and compare them to the words in the audio, and produce a report if anything is wrong, and it can automatically fix audio,” said KJ Kandell, senior director, media product management. It also does language verification, ensuring that multiple language tracks are in the right place. It supports a huge range of file formats, is highly scalable, and can be integrated with other QC systems, such as AmberFin. It will be available in November. www.nexidia.com
