] Adrienne Tarver

Yale defender waxes intellectual on Frank Lloyd Wright and Black Arts Movement Who’s your favorite athlete?

Usain Bolt. His speed is incredible, but I also love that he’s a fierce competitor who manages to keep things light-hearted while he completely dominates his opponents.

What’s one thing you can’t live without? Eggs. I can eat them cooked in pretty much any way, though scrambled is my favorite. There’s nothing quite like a nice plate of freshly scrambled eggs with lots of Tabasco sauce.

Where did you go on your last vacation? Other than Brazil where I spent this summer, the last trip that I took was out to Seattle to visit my older brother. I have two older brothers, Darryl and Kyle, and Darryl and I flew out and spent a week just hanging out with Kyle.

Tell us about your trip to Brazil. It was the longest time I’d ever spent outside of the U.S. It was

a Yale study-abroad program. We spent time in several different cities but spent most of our time in Rio de Janeiro, where we lived for a month with host families. While there, I studied the Portuguese language as well as Brazilian history and culture. It was a wonderful and enlightening experience.

What’s been the proudest moment of your lacrosse career?

When my high school team, Park School of Baltimore, won our conference championship my senior year against one of our rival schools. It was the perfect end to my high school career.

What did you want to be when you were younger? An architect. I’m really fascinated by the way buildings are imagined. Why not learn to design them myself? I remember seeing a few works by Frank Lloyd Wright, and I used to dream of being able to design structures of my own.

What’s been your favorite class at Yale? “The Black Arts Movement.” The subject matter was interesting, and the professor was incredibly engaging. Most importantly for me, however, was that it was a small seminar I took as a freshman, and all of my classmates were also freshmen, so it was a great opportunity for me to meet other people in the class of 2014 who I may not have met otherwise.

Overtime (from North Carolina faceoff specialist R.G. Keenan): If you could go back in time and have dinner with any person in history, who would it be? Jackie Robinson. He was such an amazing athlete, and it would be interesting to hear about integrating Major League Baseball.

Double Overtime (from Joel Winger, Santa Barbara, Calif.): Who is your favorite superhero? Superman, for no reason other than he’s got a cool-looking

costume.

Pose a question for our next subject. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
