2012 RECORD: 11-5 (4-2 IVY LEAGUE) COACH: ANDY SHAY (10TH YEAR)

YALE BULLDOGS 16

RIVAL COACHES SAY “Toughest team in the Ivy League…

Gibson is a major loss. His summer in the MLL proves what a great player he is.”

 TOP RETURNER D Peter Johnson (Sr.) The four-year starter and honorable mention All-American returns alongside Mike McCormack, giving Yale one of the top returning defenses in the Ivy League. The rangy Minnesota native picked up 50 ground balls and caused 29 turnovers.

 X-FACTOR FO Dylan Levings (Jr.) Yale ranked sixth nationally in possession margin thanks to Levings. The honorable mention All-American was No. 4 with a 63.2-percent success rate on faceoffs. With Matt Gibson gone and Deron Dempster out, Yale will need more scoring chances.

2012 RECORD: 8-7 (4-2 BIG EAST) COACH: MIKE CORRADO (7TH YEAR)

VILLANOVA WILDCATS 17

RIVAL COACHES SAY “Rice is one of the country’s best pure goal scorers: dying breed of the ‘crease’ attackman… Issue between the pipes. They’ve had subpar goalie play the past couple of seasons.”

 TOP RETURNER A Jack Rice (Sr.) Rice (31 goals) will be called on more after Big East Attackman of the Year Kevin Cunningham graduated. Rice has appeared in all 46 games of his career (44 starts) and ranks seventh all-time at Villanova with 91 goals.

 X-FACTOR

FO Thomas Croonquist (Jr.) The second-team All-Big East pick had shoulder surgery in the offseason. If he’s healthy, Croonquist’s continued dominance on faceoffs (60.2 percent for his career) will help the Wildcats offset personnel losses all over the field.

2012 RECORD: 12-4 (4-2 ECAC) COACH: ANDY COPELAN (5TH YEAR)

FAIRFIELD STAGS 18

RIVAL COACHES SAY “Copelan’s guys will lay down in front of a train for him, and that’s dangerous… Adams is gone. The big thing for Snow: Will he handle getting the pole now?”

 TOP RETURNER M Sam Snow (Sr.)

Snow pumped in 35 goals and in 2012, leading the Stags in scoring. With linemate Brent Adams, one of the ECAC’s top middies, and attackman John Snellman having graduated, Snow will carry even more of the load this season.

 X-FACTOR M Colin McLinden (So.) McLinden started all 16 games as a freshman with eight goals and 19 assists. His development — initiating and finishing — will affect the kind of offense Fairfield runs . He set up several late scores in one-goal wins.

20

 TOP RETURNER LSM Mason Poli (Sr.) The two-time All-American poured in 25 points (19 goals, 6 assists) to stake his claim as an elite offensive long-stick midfielder. At 200 pounds, he is active on the wings of faceoffs and is a true transition weapon willing to shoot from anywhere.

19

 TOP RETURNER M Adrian Sorichetti (Sr.) The 6-foot, 200-pound Canadian led the Pride with 24 goals and 14 assists. The lefty has great outside shooting ability and put 61 percent of shots on goal. He scored seven goals against St. John’s, most by a Hofstra player since 2003.

2012 RECORD: 6-8 (2-4 CAA) COACH: SETH TIERNEY (7TH YEAR)

HOFSTRA PRIDE

RIVAL COACHES SAY “Talk about playing with a chip on your shoulder. After last year (six one-goal losses), these guys will be out for blood.”

 X-FACTOR FO John Antonaides (Sr.) It’s the Hofstra’s co-captain fourth season as the faceoff man, ranking among the nation’s statistical leaders throughout his career. In 2011, he won 64 percent (fifth nationally), but last year his percentage dropped to 54 percent (22nd).

2012 RECORD: 14-4 (4-1 NORTHEAST CONFERENCE) COACH: MIKE PRESSLER (7TH YEAR)

BRYANT BULLDOGS

RIVAL COACHES SAY “Wouldn’t be surprised to see this team pull an upset or two against some of the heavy-hitters on their schedule… They will compete against Mount St. Mary’s in a great matchup for the league’s first AQ.”

 X-FACTOR FO Kevin Massa (So.) The 63.9-percent faceoff man is the top returning statistical specialist in the country — and he’s only a sophomore. He’ll keep Bryant, always solid at facing off, in every game. Massa finished under 50 percent in just two games last year.
