For someone who has sacrificed so much in his life for lacrosse, it’s ironic one of the best things Scott Hugdahl has received from those efforts was entirely personal: spending time with his kids.

Never did the sport mean as much to Hugdahl as when he helped coach twin sons Matt and Mitch at Eden Prairie (Minn.) High from 2008 to 2011. At a time when most teenagers flee the house to get as far away from their parents as possible, Hugdahl was up close and personal at practices and games. “I got a chance to spend time with them every day out of the
house,” Hugdahl said. “That’s something a lot of fathers don’t have.”
Hugdahl played high school lacrosse in Colorado and club lacrosse at the University of Colorado but largely left the sport behind until a fateful birthday gift for the twins. “We bought a lacrosse net
for a birthday present, and then it became a full scale invasion,” he said. Hugdahl’s sons started recruiting friends. “We had half a team just in our neighborhood,” he said. To find a place for the boys to play, Hugdahl helped start the
