Diversity From its beautiful beaches to its top-notch sport- ing facilities, diversity has been the secret of Is- tria's success. Istria is the next true golf destination, and whilst its facilities are still being formed, it already offers incredible golfing ex- periences - on the island Veli Brijun as a part of the National Park Brijuni and in Savudrija as a part of Kempinski Adriatic Hotel.


For those who prefer to discover the amaz- ing scenery by bicycle, this peninsula has about sixty traced cycle tracks along the coastline, through woods and small medieval towns. Istria is well-known for tennis: there are around 430 tennis clay courts available to play on throughout the year. The not to miss fixture of the year is the ATP Studena Croatia Open in Umag.


Caving, paragliding, horseback riding and other alternative adventures add to Istria's in- creasing appeal.

Forty four of its beaches and three of its marinas have been awarded the Blue Flag high quality mark, which recognises efforts made to preserve the integrity of the sea, coast and enviroment. well-being for body and mind, this region offers spas and wellness centres that are a truely relax- ing alternative to the classic holiday, and are open all year around.


In addition to all these facilities, activities and the outstanding natural beauty, there is plenty of art and culture available with interna- tional film, theatre and music festivals taking place and big concerts by world famous singers. The region's style credientials are also flourshing with a new five-star design hotels, such as a sleek Hotel Lone in the romantic Rovinj forest. Forming a magnificent backdrop to this exam- ple of 21st-century modernity, is Istria's 3000- year-old heritage. Highlights include a first-century amphitheatre in Pula and the sixth- century Euphrasian Basilica in Porec, a UN- ESCO World Heritage site.
