Suntech and the vast majority of EU and global companies in the solar industry stand together in our support for free trade.


NEE: This is perhaps a question on many people's minds at the moment; how much potential damage does the recent debacle be- tween certain European PV companies and the Government of China over alleged price dumping practices threaten the PV industry and how does Suntech view the importance of Europe and China maintaining and devel- oping their current relationship?


VG: Suntech is ready to collaborate with the in- vestigation and since we are a public company complete transparency is a given/must. It is im- portant to know that the solar supply chain is very globalized and interdependent. Most solar systems rely upon components and services from companies based all over the world. Sun- tech, for instance, sources a significant portion of its manufacturing equipment and raw materials from the EU. In 2010 and 2011, Suntech pro- cured approximately €600 million worth of equipment and materials from EU suppliers. Sun- tech and the vast majority of EU and global com- panies in the solar industry stand together in our support for free trade.


NEE: How do you envisage the development of the photovoltaic industry, and how does Suntech aim to fit in with this vision? Suntech will continue to be a leader in the indus- try, even if the focus will eventually shift away from being the producer of the largest quantities of standard product. We will continue to be a thought leader working with important stakeholders in pol- itics and civil society to bring solar energy to re- mote parts of the world and to new markets that so far remain untapped. Working with our network of Universities mainly in Australia but also China, Europe and the US, we will continue to be a t the forefront of technological development.
