Where to stay Lisbon

Olissippo Lapa Palace The Portuguese know Lisbon as the city of the seven hills because legend has it that, you’ve guessed it, the city was originally built over seven hills. Nestling in beautiful gardens on the most prestigious of these hills is the stately 19th-century palace that houses the five-star Olissippo Lapa Palace hotel. The Lapa quarter has for centuries attracted the noble and the elite, and it retains its prestige today. Lapa Palace hotel is situated be- tween the two most important tourist areas in Lisbon, with the centre to the east and Belém to the west. The Olissippo Lapa Palace has three

sections. The original palace, built in 1870, was completely renovated in 2003 in the 18th-century styles of the Portuguese monarchy. The Garden and Villa wings con- tinue this classic Portuguese theme but the rich decor is informed by a more modern sensibility. The larger Palace Deluxe Rooms are situated on the higher floors of the orig- inal palace and come with magnificent views of the river, city and garden from their balconies and terraces. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool

framed by beautiful and tranquil gardens. There is also a health and fitness area, and the indoor heated pool, sauna, Turkish bath and fully equipped gym. For any work that cannot wait, there is a business centre open 24 hours a day that offers a computer with free internet access, free printers and, on re- quest, secretarial and translation services.
