Manfield Sand’s Fibresand Ensures Longevity For Riding Centre Manége
For any busy riding school the quality and longevity of its manéges is imperative to the health and performance of its horses, as well as providing long-term financial benefits to the riding centre. Trent Valley Equestrian Centre is one such riding school that understands the need for top quality surfaces that will withstand the test of time.
Based in Fiskerton, Nottinghamshire, Trent Valley Equestrian Centre (Trentvalley) is home to over 100 horses, five outdoor schools and one indoor arena. Each arena is used on a daily basis so the need for a hard- wearing, yet safe, surface is vital.
“As well as a riding school, we are also a competition centre and run numerous events throughout the year from unaffiliated and affiliated show jumping, dog agility and dressage, to western riding classes and indoor x-country. We also provide training for national exams,” explains Rose Wilson, Director at Trent Valley Equestrian Centre. “As such we require surfaces that can withstand a high level of activity. After researching the many potential products on the market, we decided Fibresand was the best fit for our needs and 12 years later we are still using it.”
Fibresand, developed by equestrian surface specialists Mansfield Sand, is an effective combination of silica sand and synthetic fibres, which help to stabilise the sand producing a free draining yet firm, sure footed surface.
“We have been using all of our arenas for many different
disciplines for over ten years and although we top them up approximately every two years, we are still using our original sand surface – which is obviously helping us to save money.
“Fibresand also requires very little maintenance. Apart from picking up droppings, which I believe is a must for prolonging the life of any surface, we only power harrow when the sand is wet. We also have a simple roof irrigation system in our indoor school which helps us control the firmness of the sand,” adds Rose.
Louise Barrington-Earp, Equestrian Technical Sales at Mansfield Sand, explains, “Fibresand is an extremely durable, yet flexible surface so is ideally suited for heavy use, such as in a riding school. It also provides a sure footed surface enabling horses to work confidently even whilst jumping.
“The give and movement in the surface also minimises the risk of joint injuries which is essential to the health and happiness of a riding centre’s horses, as well as helping to reduce vets bills,” continues Louise.
Rose concludes, “After using Fibresand on a daily basis for 12 years I would have no qualms about recommending it to anyone.”
