Is your winter wardrobe ready for action? Don’t forget to invest in suitable footwear, so you are all set for the rigours of the colder seasons.

Accredited British Horse Society Instructor and British Eventing coach, Victoria Thirlby, of Grendon Equestrian Centre in North Warwickshire, is a fan of boots from the Taurus Footwear range. She says, “I like a boot that can be easily taken on and off many times in one day, so the boot has to be sturdy and hard- wearing. Because I

teach young children, I believe the clothes I am

wearing have an influence on them, so I

wouldn’t wear a boot I didn’t feel could

withstand the demands of a rider. Taurus Boots cannot only withstand a lot of pressure, but they are comfortable and stylish too. I wear them constantly around the yard and for competitions. They are so comfortable and really step up to the mark.”

How to choose your perfect boot

There’s so much choice where riding boots are concerned – so how do you choose? Here, Victoria offers Equestrian Life readers her advice:

1. Short jodhpur-style boots – The traditional styles are popular with younger riders while the more robust shapes like the Rutland are great for busy horse-owners as they are multi- tasking, fashionable boots.

2. Short paddock boots – These are a little streamlined and smarter than jodhpur boots and tend to have more ankle support, if laced.

3. Laced field boots – These long boots are popular with showjumpers as they have a tighter fit at the ankle for support.

4. Plain tall boots – Favoured by dressage enthusiasts, these boots have stiffened side panels to aid a still leg position.

5. Field boots with elastic inserts – These are very popular for all kinds of schooling and also cross-country riding, as they tend to be durable and comfortable.
