Stacey Nichols
My name is Stacey Nichols and I am a show jumper based in Cambridgeshire. I run my own private show jumping yard and take horses in for breaking, schooling, competition livery and also provide tuition for riders of all levels.
I’m very fortunate to be able to say I have had a great 2012 so far and the season is still not over for me. My mare, Sharapova (aka Kitty) has been the star of the yard - and boy does she know it! She qualified for the Blue Chip Winter Championships held back in April, qualified for the British Novice final and Equifest. She has been very consistent all season - we competed at Addington Young Horse Championships where she jumped a fantastic clear in the British Bred 5-year- old section and from there we travelled to Equifest where she finished 6th in the Equifest young horse final. We then jumped a triple clear in the British Novice final and qualified for the 5-year-old final at Scope. She will have a break over the winter ready for next year whilst I get a chance to concentrate on the less experienced horses.
I have got a yard of very lovely horses and owners; Kitty, Griff and Rosie plus a few homebred youngsters who are owned by
me, Henry, a Grade B is owned by Nancy Kendall and Graff a 1.30m/1.40m horse is owned by Charlotte Briggs. Enzo, my first homebred (and undoubtedly my favourite) is a 4-year-old bay gelding with a gorgeous big white face and four white socks. He isn’t too bad at a bit of dressage with his ‘flicky toes’ but he’s soon to make his jumping debut! I also have a 3-year-old chestnut mare, which I bred, called Lola. Now this mare is a law unto herself! She’s a little wild and definitely your typical chestnut mare and I am just starting to break her in, a challenge I am looking forward to! And the newest edition to the family is Gizmo. At just 12 weeks old he has certainly made a big entrance to the world. So far in his short life he has had two blood transfusions, box rest and restricted turnout, plus internal and external stitches after trying to start his jumping career far too early! Nonetheless he’s utterly adorable and I can’t help but keep cuddling him!
I’ve worked extremely hard to make a good name for myself both locally and nationally, and its something that has taken a lot of time, hard work and determination. Publicity for a rider at any level is hard to come by but even more so for a rider like myself trying to work my way up the ladder, and until the beginning of this year I had no luck and had more or less given up in trying to find businesses to help support me. But you have got to keep asking! Since this fantastic opportunity arose with Equibright, the ball has continued to roll. I have picked up a few other sponsorship deals that are also giving me great support, and every little

helps. I feel privileged to be able to help promote a great product, one that both my horses and I love. (I know Kitty loves it as her skin allergy no longer flares up!) Sometimes it’s worth waiting for, and patience and dedication alongside passion can reward you. If you want it, go out and get it! There’s no harm in asking, and all your hard work can pay off in the end – it certainly has for me, Emma and Simon. I know I couldn’t ask for better supporters!.
