Natalie Greasley’s Highland Fling! Photos by kind permission of Leah Jones

Natalie told us, “On the 19th of August we went, from our yard near Markfield, Leicestershire to the Southern Highland Breed Show. I took ‘Lochlands Treble Flute’, a 5-year-old gelding. I have had him with me all season, just competing in novice classes. I broke him as a 3-year-old, did a bit as a 4-year-old and this was his first full season under saddle. He belongs to Steve and Anne Walker and I am lucky enough to get the ride. We did the novice ridden, over 14hh, which we won. This then took us in to the novice ridden Championship, he went novice champion and was then eligible for the ridden supreme. To our huge delight, he won this too and was ridden supreme of show. And just to top the day off, we came reserve overall supreme of the whole show. For a 5-year-old, this was pretty amazing and I was so delighted with him! ‘Weeps’ loves his ridden work and always tries to please!”

Pony Club National Novice Championships in Cheshire Photos by Sandra Murphy

National 3rd Place for Brocklesby Dressage Team

After coming 1st in the Eventing and 2nd in the Dressage at the Pony Club Area Finals held at Burghley and the Lincolnshire Showground the previous month, the members of the Brocklesby Hunt Pony Club Eventing and Dressage teams travelled across to Kelsall Hill in Cheshire to represent Area 6 at the Pony Club National Novice Championships. The team, Darbi Murphy, Ella Fraser, Lewis Aitchinson and Millie Petchell all rode their hearts out in Saturday’s dressage finals and achieved a very impressive 3rd place beating 37 other teams from across the country. This was a super result which saw Millie Petchell and her pony Murphy winning their section, and Ella, Lewis and Darbi all achieving fantastic placings.

The following day saw the Eventing Championships held at the same venue in Cheshire and the same team qualified for this discipline also. This competition was extremely tough with very technical, up-to-height

Kerry Morris & Dylan Scott’s Grey (Dylan) is a 143cm 14-year-old gelding that I do mainly flat showing and working hunter. I’m 21 years old and live in Bottesford. I work full time as a groom for international show jumper Vicky Young and fit competing Dylan in around work. We were reserve worker champion at the Ultimate Showcase Show. We also got placed in all my classes at Amateurs winning a class and coming 2nd in three others. My next show was Equifest which I was so excited to be staying for the week, we arrived on the Tuesday to have time to get settled in before we started showing on the Wednesday. I entered a show hunter pony training class where I picked up some very good and handy tips to help us for the rest of the week. At my first ever Equifest I came away with being placed in every class I went in and had some fab results including winning two of my classes out of 24-plus entries in the riding club pony and best turned out and then we went champion turn out and got into the evening performance. We also went clear in my workers class and came 5th out of 20.

showjumping and cross-country courses to negotiate. Unfortunately a couple of mishaps in both showjumping and cross-country saw the Brocklesby Team slip down the rankings and finished in 26th place. The amazing team effort did not stop there as the Brocklesby Team picked up a 5th place rosette for the Best turned out in the Eventing competition. All the members of the team, parents and supporters all deserve a well done for all the hard work that went into getting the teams and their horses to the Championships.
