4. CULLODEN / CAWDOR CASTLE / INVERNESS Delve into Scottish history on visits to Culloden, site of the battle of 1746 that divided families and clans, and the ancient burial site at Clava Cairns. At 14th-century Cawdor Castle, you’ll find a medieval slate-roofed castle with magnificent gardens, a Big Wood and a complicated connection to Shakespeare’s woeful tale of Macbeth, King of Scots. 5. VISIT 16TH-CENTURY BLAIR CASTLE From Inverness, travel Tauck’s Yellow Roads through the Cairngorm and Grampian mountains to Blair Atholl, for a visit to Blair Castle. The famed white castle, lying beneath forested slopes above the River Garry, contains more than 30 rooms featuring historical artifacts, art, arms and armor providing insights into Scottish life over seven centuries. Arrive in Edinburgh; your hotel, The Balmoral, sits in the heart of the city’s shopping area on Princes Street in New Town. Meals BD
6. EXPLORE EDINBURGH Begin the day sightseeing in Edinburgh, accompanied by a local expert. Visit 11th-century Edinburgh Castle, witness to many defining moments in Scottish history and displaying the Stone of Destiny on which most Scottish kings were crowned.
