The country’s highest peak, Corrán Tuathail, reigns over Killarney National Park, at the peninsula’s heart. 7. KYLEMORE ABBEY & ASHFORD CASTLE Today you’re off to the wilds of Connemara for a visit to the lakeside castle known as Kylemore Abbey. Built in the late 19th century as a private home, the castle became the adopted home of Benedictine nuns forced from Ypres, Belgium, by the battles of World War I. In the near-century since their arrival, the nuns have restored the abbey, church and walled gardens to their former beauty; they are now home to a prestigious boarding school for girls. Return to Ashford Castle, where the remainder of the day is free to pursue some of the castle’s many outdoor activities. Dine à la carte tonight. Meals BLD
