Professor Ziya Akinciı
Arbitration Institute of Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (“SCC”), Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Tehran Regional Arbitration Centre (“TRAC”). Professor Akıncı has been a member of the ICC since 2006. He is also a member of the LCIA, International Bar Association, International Trademark Association, Swiss Arbitration Association, Turkish branch of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and Turkish-Scandinavian Businessmen's Association, as well as an honorary member of the Swiss Arbitration Academy.
Professor Ziya Akıncı is a 1986 graduate of Dokuz Eylül University’s Faculty of Law and obtained his PhD in 1992 in Private International Law from Istanbul University Faculty of Law, after taking LLMs in International Law from England’s University of Exeter in 1991 and in Private International Law from Ankara University in 1987. Professor Akıncı, as arbitrator, party-counsel, co-counsel and/or expert, has worked on disputes related to highways, railways, metros, commercial and residential buildings, underground sewage systems,
infrastructure
development, water distribution facilities, shopping centers, natural gas storage and “SCADA” systems, both here in Turkey and in many countries in the region.
Professor Akıncı acts and has appeared in, among others, ad hoc proceedings under UNCITRAL Rules, and before the International Chamber of Commerce Court of Arbitration (“ICC”), International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (“ICSID”), London Court of International Arbitration (“LCIA”),
Professor Akıncı, as arbitrator, party-counsel, co-counsel and/or expert, has worked on disputes related to highways, railways, metros, commercial and residential buildings, underground sewage systems, infrastructure development, water
distribution facilities, shopping centers, natural gas storage and “SCADA” systems.
Professor Akıncı has written extensively, including books and articles. His ninth book, Arbitration Law of Turkey: Practice and Procedure, was published within the past year. Professor Akıncı was recently invited to join a panel that briefed the United Kingdom’s House of Lords about arbitration in Turkey.
