Rutland looks for an award hat-trick

AS THE countdown to the BikeBiz Awards 2012 hots up, we spotted a former winner spreading the word about its accolades with some top notch signage on their shop. Not only has Rutland Cycling won a couple of awards, it is also in the running for one this year, so it might have to add another year to the sign. All will be revealed on Wednesday September 16th, at the Hilton Metropole NEC, Birmingham. Have you got your tickets yet?

Hope for Wiggo

BRADLEY WIGGINS led out the first ride for his charity Foundation in mid-August, and Hope provided the setting for the post-ride conference. Starting from Barnoldswick, Lancashire, around 1,500 cyclists took part in the ride, including 100km and 160km routes around the Olympic gold medallist and Tour de France winner’s favourite training routes. Interest in the ride far exceeded the Foundation’s expectations, leaving them inundated with entries. Pics kindly supplied by

“ADVOCACY IS the most powerful force for generating and protecting the bicycle sales we have but it needs investment from the whole sector. “The EU will welcome

any economic arguments put to it and cycling is being listened to because it brings clear economic benefits. The EU tells us the reason there’s no cycling money for some countries was because it wasn’t being asked for.

“The healthiest bike markets are not built on leisure mountain biking, they are built on transport bikes. We have studied EU wide figures for transport cycling and confirmed that countries with the highest transport cycling buy the most bikes. “Advocacy leads

to sales.” Kevin Mayne, ECF’s

director of development, speaking at Eurobike
