TRAILER BIKES AND TRAILERS Shifting Gear

Ison Distribution

SURLY HAS two trailers on offer – Bill & Ted – both designed to haul large quantities, be easy to use and work with a variety of bicycles.

Bill is the long one (1608 x 610mm)

and Ted is the short (813 x 610mm). The beds and hitch are constructed mainly of TIG-welded 4130 CroMoly and use 304 stainless steel hardware, where appropriate, to ensure corrosion resistance and a long life. Wheels are 16- inch keeping cargo low to the ground. Price (including the Hitch) is from £689.98 for the Ted. Elsewhere, Surly’s Big Dummy is designed for carrying cargo. It’s made of

steel and is built around the Xtracycle design platform, which means that Xtracycle accessories can be added depending on what you want to carry. As a single-piece frame it’s stout and resistant to torsional flex and can carry about 200 pounds (90kg) of cargo. Importantly it rides like a bike – it’s smooth, manoeuvrable, and maybe even nimble, according to Ison. The bike is £1,999.99, while the

frameset retails at £849.99. 01353 662662

Weehoo

WEEHOO’S IGO Bicycle Pedal Trailer puts a new spin on the classic concept of a bicycle trailer with this one-of-a- kind pedal trailer. With the i-Go, kids get to pedal independently, while active parents may enjoy the convenience of having an extra Weehoo Hitch, sold separately, when switching between using the i-Go with different bikes.

An adjustable three-point harness

with chest buckle keeps little ‘uns safe and secure, while the removable push bar easily detaches so it can be stowed without too much bother. Handy storage pockets are located in the seat and over the rear wheel. The i-Go’s balanced design includes a low and narrow passenger seat for a

Mission Cycles

THE NEW Mission Piggyback Mk 2 has been designed for teenagers and young adults. Now featuring a stronger frame and

24-inch wheels, it uses Mission Cycles’ own special designed coupling that enables the leading bike to turn corners. Unlike more traditional trailer bikes with a single rear wheel, the Piggyback Mk 2 provides more stability: The Mk2 will tow with no side-to-side movement making them ideal for people with a balance problem or special needs. They’re also ideal for those longer

family rides. The rear axle drive shaft and hubs have sealed bearings, which give a quiet smooth ride while the centre ridge tyres also boost comfort. Handlebar and seat post height can be easily adjusted to the Pillion size.

Back rests with side supports and

self-leveling pedals have been added for extra safety and the Mk 2 comes with a folding tow arm for easier storage. This product is VAT exempt to registered disabled persons. Aside from the new Piggyback,

Mission Cycles offers a wealth of trailers, including specific options designed for dogs, cargo and other assorted oddments. Head to www.missioncycles.co.uk to see the full range available. 01622 815 615

smooth and steady ride. The overall capacity of this pedal trailer is 75 lbs, which includes the weight of the passenger and the cargo. The quick-adjust seat

accommodates children 38-inches to 52-inches tall while the i-Go works with standard bicycles with seat post diameters of: 25.4, 26.8, 27.2, 30.9 and 31.6.

The easy-to-adjust, padded seat

allows children to pedal comfortably. Cleverly, the sprocket and chain are enclosed to keep children’s fingers grease-free and safe. The comfortable rubber handle grips also give children something to hold on to, while another added safety feature is the foot straps which keep little feet attached to the pedals.
