• bradley wiggins makes hay A brace (and braces) for Hutchinson at BWCs
THE SEVENTH Brompton World Championship was held in August at the Bike Blenheim Palace festival. Selling out in just two weeks, the event saw Michael Hutchinson win for the second consecutive time (in a course record), while Julia Shaw took the prize for the fastest female. 682 riders took part in the quirky race, in which 34 nationalities were represented.
Euro flight misery
GETTING TO and from Friedrichshafen- set Eurobike can be a patience-testing affair, but alarm bells rang around the trade when German airline Lufthansa announced they were striking on the Friday of the show. But was anyone as unlucky as the team from Bob Elliot? Their six-hour wait for the connecting flight from Frankfurt to Manchester was extended when their flight was cancelled. After much discussion they were advised their only guaranteed route home was Frankfurt to Aberdeen, then back to Heathrow and finally to Manchester. Things picked up when they gambled by going on standby to Gatwick and then scoring a direct flight to Manchester, arriving a mere 20 hours late… and at time of press still waiting for their suitcases. Anyone got a comparable Eurobike trip tales of woe?

Sir Chris Hay rides out
IN OUR quest for bicycle related news BikeBiz has travelled near and far to uncover cycling goings on. In our home county, the good people of Flamstead proved that the likes of Bradley Wiggins and Sir Chris Hoy have been gathered close to the hearts of the general public, with multiple hay-based effigies of the cycling duo appearing at the village’s Scarecrow Festival, together with some awful puns. Scarecrows are final straw for Wiggo? We’ll get our coat.
