Bandon’s other courses first. Park City, Utah’s Outlaw

Golf Club is a nine-hole course consisting of two par 4s ranging from 470 yards to 220 and seven par 3s with varying lengths from 260 down to 60 yards depending on the tee. This flexibility makes the course an ideal venue for practice as well as variety, since changing tees on a repeat visit tests every club in the bag. Panoramic vistas of the Jordanelle Reservoir and the Wasatch Mountains are just an added bonus in the beautiful Park City area, perhaps best known for its skiing and the Sundance Film Festival. the right of the first hole of Bandon Trails. Ocean views abound on what will surely become one of the world’s most dramatic and ruggedly beautiful par-3 layouts. Yardages range from 78 to 164, meaning your Sunday bag is more than enough, and the turf—100% fes- cue—mirrors the tight and firm ground found throughout the resort. The different shot values resemble a thrill ride, with holes situated on top of and alongside ocean dunes

One notable design that was supposed to debut in 2012 was Tiger Woods’ High Carolina at the Cliffs near Asheville, North Carolina.

with some fully exposed to Bandon’s trademark winds, while others are positioned at the base of a dune, pro- tected from gusts. The course is scheduled to open May 1 and is set to have a green fee of $100, or a replay rate of $50 for those who played one of

two courses within easy driving distance of Seattle. Salish Cliffs is located at the Little Creek Casino Resort, about an hour southwest of Seattle and opened last Sep- tember. Most of the holes on the hilly course—more than 600 feet of elevation change is present—are blanketed by dense forest, offering a sense of solitude and escape on the player’s 18-hole journey. Ever- green and cedar, rocks and wetlands also characterize

the course, yet there are en- compassing views of Puget Sound, the Kamilche Valley and even distant Mount Ranier. Bentgrass greens, a rarity in western Washing- ton, provide smooth putting surfaces and closely-mown areas surrounding the greens offer short-game options on the Gene Bates design. The course begins and ends with reachable par 5s, which should appeal to the gambling golfer. Rope Rider GC, part of

the Suncadia Resort situated on the eastern edge of the Cascades about 90 minutes from Seattle in the town of Cle Elum, pays homage to the miners who rode roped coal cars through steel mine shafts. At 7,300 yards plus the rugged course is more than enough for any golfer, but in a nod to new trends, the course also is easily con- figured for family golf, with shorter, youth tees on every hole and three and six-hole loops for quick sessions. The Club at Kukui’ula

on Kauai in Hawaii is perhaps the most scenic of the new courses, boasting a setting high on a Pacific bluff offering ocean views on every hole. Wide fair-
