Vos’ Ski and Snowboard Show turns to the trade

2012 consumer event in October will incorporate increased industry elements, says Vos Media By: Jonathon Harker

FOR THE first time the Earls Court-based Ski and Snowboard Show is shifting its focus to a consumer and trade joint event. The first two days of the show –

running from Wednesday October 31st to Sunday November 4th 2012 – will feature conferences and forums, focusing on the current issues faced by the snowsports industry from tourism and retail perspectives. The opening day of the show will focus on the travel side of the industry, centring around the second Responsible Skiiing Conference, held for the first time at the Ski and Snowboard show last year. The second day, Thursday, switches to retail in association with ISPO, the international sports business network.

“As an organisation we have been in extensive consultation over the last few months with our partners,” explained head of Vos Media Snowsports Tim Holmes. “The consensus has been that the addition of a trade-focused programme to the show would be of real benefit to exhibitors and non-exhibitors alike as it would provide a forum to discuss current issues faced by all sectors of the wintersports community. “As the largest consumer wintersports

show we have the perfect environment

for different sectors of the industry to get together and we have a duty to support the UK snowsports trade by putting on activity such as this which will be completely free of charge to exhibitors and partners,” Holmes added. www.metrosnow.co.uk/the_show

Thule scoops second Red Dot Firm follows up 2011 prize for Slidebar roof bar with 2012 Best Product Design gong for new Kayak carrier

A PRESTIGIOUS Red Dot Award has been presented to Thule for the second year in a row from the international body, in the ‘Best Product Design’ category. Thule’s award winning kayak carrier K-

from light, sensitive materials and shapes that vary significantly from one model to another (like bikes) – has been a challenge, but the K-Guard solves all those problems, according to Thule and Red Dot. “To win this award two years in a row is amazing, and it really proves that Thule can revolutionise quality, functionality and – not the least – innovative product design,” enthused Thule’s vice president of product development Greger Juhlin. “This challenges us to stay in the forefront and to continuously create exciting products within the outdoor category.”

38 BIKEBIZ APRIL Over 4,500 products were entered in

the Product Design category, which were examined by 30 international judges. Last year, the Red Dot jury awarded the Thule SlideBar roof bar product.
