cDonald’s South Africa, was awarded Winner in the Deloitte Best Company to Work For (BCTWF) 2011 Survey in the Large Company Category 1


. Their “I’m lovin’


it” tagline was palpable as their peers applauded their success.


And their staff are “lovin’ it” too. According to Sechaba Motsieloa (pictured opposite page), Corporate Affairs Director, the company joined the Deloitte BCTWF programme in 2005 as a mechanism to enable them to track where their people commitment scores were. “We realised that, for us to succeed as a business, we needed to truly understand what our employees actually value. Our staff complement is sourced locally and we had to validate, within the South African landscape, how well we were doing as an employer and what we could be doing differently. The BCTWF programme has been used as an external measure and benchmarking tool.


We also have a barrage of internal measures, including an internal commitment survey complete by our staff each year. We have a People Profit Model. Its departure point is the fact that committed people are our competitive advantage. Part of this model includes training our staff so that they can provide a quality service which will translate ultimately to profit for the business. Our achievement in the BCTWF programme has validated our internal activities externally.”
