3. The Idea2Product Laboratory which is a walk-in facility for entrepreneurs and SMMEs to design and produce tangible products from ideas that they may have and that require further funding. 4. The French-South African-Schneider Electric Training Centre for training in the power sector such as energy, electrical, electronic, maintenance and automated systems.


The University has collaborated with experienced incubation programmes in order to increase its learning capacity and expanding its activities. These programmes include the following:


• Tzaneen Oil Beneficiation Demonstration Centre, which is a joint project with Chemcity (PTY) Ltd to promote entrepreneurship in the food and health sector. • Youth Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Programme, where VUT is partnering with the majority of tertiary institutions to promote skills development

In her address to the forum Prof Moutlana said, “Given our rapidly changing information and knowledge society, government, industry and universities are under pressure to produce skilled graduates and a skilled labour force with the kind of knowledge, skills and resilience called for by our contemporary social, political and economic conditions.


As universities we are called upon to be


more flexible and to create more access courses linked to firm knowledge foundations, lifelong learning skills, problem solving abilities, policy development skills, budgeting, conflict resolution, customer care, public management skills and entrepreneurship mindsets.”


She went on to say that VUT, as a University


of Technology, plays a “pivotal” role in skills development as it is in a position to anticipate industry, commerce and government demands and to plan accordingly.
