If the catwalks andMilan Fashionweekwere anything to go by then both theminimalist and heavymetal looks are the key trends of Spring/Summer 2012.

Fashion leaders Vogue say the minimalistic trend is all about stripping things right back and aiming to create a healthy, radiant and pretty look. The key is to focus on natural glowing skin, with highlighted contours and eyes kept neutral with charcoal liners and pumped up lashes.

This season it’s all about the ‘less is more’ motto and with this in mind it is important that both the skin tone and the eye colour of your client is kept in mind.

If your client has fair skin then corals, lilacs and berry shades will suit. For olive or sallow skin tones, shades of indigo, violet and orange will set off their natural skin tone.

Heavy eye make-up was also a big trend for the new season shows, with bold metallic eyes seen everywhere. Shimmering navy and gold leaf were the main shades with smoky eyes being updated with a dose of sparkle.

Feline flicks plan on making a comeback for Spring, so start thinking cat-woman! Flick up the tips to extend past the outer corner of the eye. Double liner has also been spotted on a few catwalks too.

Bright colours such as greens and blues combined with earthy shades of gold, brown and beige has been seen on many catwalks and applied on the eyes will create a dramatic effect.

If your client opts for bold eyes then the rest of the make-up should be kept natural and understated for maximum impact. Light pinks, nudes and coral hues have

taken over from the usual pillar box red and will be glazing over everyone’s lips this season to create ultimate elegance.

As for eyebrows, this season sees fuller brows that are in-keeping with the natural trend. PaulineYoungblood, President and Founder ofYoungbloodMineral Cosmetics says: “The latest brow trend is slightly pigmented with a full, natural shape.Avoid over tweezing or using dark brow powders as they both create a harsh look.”

She continues: “Fuller brows give a more youthful look, while thin brows can be ageing. Be sure to choose the appropriate brow colour to match your client’s hair colour exactly.”

Often, even though a client may have black hair, black brow powder is too dark, so instead opt for a dark brown, and a brow powder gives a more natural effect than brow cream.

Mineral make-up has become increasingly popular over the past few years, and the new Spring/Summer collections have seen a boost in the ranges available.

Your clients may be after a make-up collection that covers up their blemishes but still remains kind to their skin.Mineral make-up would therefore be an ideal option, the products have a much lighter feel on the skin, when compared to traditional make-up, and create a breathable barrier for the skin.

Many mineral bases also offer sun protection factor (SPF), protecting the skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays which is a great benefit during the Summer months.

Michelle Doan, founder of EmaniMinerals says: “Mineral make-up often contains Titanium Dioxide which has a natural SPF of 15 so provides your face with some sun protection, although you should always wear sun-screen when required.”

absolutely flawless

Youngblood’sMineral Spring collection includes Luminous Crème Blush that combines a shimmering glow with a sheer, long wearing colour and is available in four shades to suit your client’s skin tone. Create modern cats’ eyes with liquid, pencil or gel. For extra flair, flick up the tips to extend past the outer corner eye.

The Eye Illuminating Duo, with two neutral tones, has been designed to brighten, reflect light and accentuate the eyes, keeping them natural but noticeable.

Their Tangelo lip colour, a sheer, creamy coral-orange shade is a step down from the usual fiery red but is very much on-trend for the Spring/Summer season.

A flawless finish is important when going for the barely there look and applying a primer first helps to fill in fine lines and enables foundation to be applied smoothly onto the skin.

EmaniMinerals Hydrating Primer Serum and foundation primer contains various organic extracts to aid and prep skin for an ultimate foundation application and also helps to extend make-up wear.

Once primed, apply their Crushed Foundation, a base foundation that creates a barrier protecting the skin from the environment, free radicals and pollution as well as looking natural with a radiant glow.
